Basically, I've been interested in firearms for a while now, and I'd like to get a piece of paper saying 'Trained Gunsmith [Insert Name Here]'. I see it as something practical, it's a trade, it has a huge annoyance factor to the Anti's and can hang it up next to my NRA membership.

Thing is though I'm currently in the UK earning hard currency. So that means I can't go to any brick building and have to do it long distance. Now I know enough that if it's got flashy gifs, orange glowing text and offers a degree for $9.99 including tax that I should ignore it. One place has caught my eye is this. They provide everything which is nice.

So, any advice, or know of any firearm centres that having any long distance courses?

The thing that no video/book course can provide is hands on experience. I have seen some video courses (though not that one) and won't run them down, but I wouldn't trust lathe or milling machine work on my gun to a person whose only experience is watching a video.

You will find a lot of discussion on this issue if you do a search.

"...I'd like to get a piece of paper saying 'Trained Gunsmith'..." Any word processor will do that.
The biggest problem with any mail order course is that you need the firearm each lesson speaks about. You won't find a junker .45 to play with in England.
"...I wouldn't trust lathe or milling machine work....whose only experience is watching a video..." Ditto. You can't learn to operate any metal working machine from a video.
