Hello all, i am doing research for my first handgun purchase.

I have pretty much narrowed it down to the walther p99 as my first purchase, in 9mm. I have also considered the beretta 92, but will need to see it/feel it more. However, i started looking in the direction of the bersa thunder 9 full size/ high capacity (17rds). Due to the great bersa name, good feedback thus far, good looks, and nice price tag.

However, it doesnt seem like they are too easy to get? I dont see the fullsize/high cap really offered anywhere. Are they completely not imported anywhere, or is there still somewhere i can get a new one.

Thanks!

finding the pistol itself will probably seem pretty easy compared to finding holsters and other accessories...my main complaint with the bersa/firestorms.

I had no issues with my bersa .380, other than it being .380.

If 9mm is fine with you, its probably a good deal. I might look into one myself, if i didn't have a BHP already. Ditto on the problematic holster selection. You might have to settle for the more generic styles, or have one custom made.

Hmm..good points.

But is there any online source i can find the thunder 9 that sells them?

The Thunder Nine looks like a nice, of course it can't be all bad because it is based on the Walther P88. I have thought about getting one myself when a couple of other purchases are squared away. If you have a bunch of money to spend buy the Walther P88, it is an amazingly accurate pistol. It is one of my favorites.

I dont think you'll be able to find the full size Bersa, but the compact version would be easy enough to find. If it's something that you plan to carry you would probably like the compact version better anyway. I've shot the compact version and it was plenty big to get all my digits around it.

considering I paid a little over $200 for the .380, something you may also consider is a CZ 75b they are 16+1, uber reliable, and all around great weapons... Also holsters and mags aren't that scarce... you should be able to walk out the door with a new 75b for less than $400 Even lower if you hunt around...

I have no experience with the thunder 9, but my .380 is wonderful... but that doesn't necessarily translate to the larger calibers... as they are a totally different design...

Haven't seen any new (old) ones lately.

Hopefully, Bersa will re-start importing them again. IIRC, they stop due to (at least one reason) hi-cap ban. They still do make them.

Thanks for the help guys. This first pistol wont be a carry item really, maybe for the car at most, it will pretty much be a range/target practice gun. I will definetly be getting the bersa .380 for a carry piece, i love that little thing.

Honestly, i really cant get over the looks of the CZ enough to buy one. The look/appearance means a lot to me in whatever i get, and i just cant get over the indention part right above the trigger.

So..it looks like im still heading in the direction of the walther p99. :)
