NY should have a 7-round mag ban in place by morning. The AP reports a year grace period for existing owners. Sounds like I've got to sell 4 10/22 mags (might as well sell the whole gun) and my SMLE sporter out-of-state before next January. Kinda glad I didn't buy that double-stack S&W 9mm last week, though, as nobody has ever made a 7-round mag for them.

I feel bad for the Garand owners, though, as an 8-round en bloc will be a high-cap come morning.

Move to Arizona, hell, we don't even have magazine restrictions on hunting :)

On a more serious note, this is awful, and I hope that something is done about this. Make sure to write your congressman.

I feel your pain. If you read the bill you'll see that it arbitrarily says 10 round mags will be grandfathered as long as you only carry 7 rounds. The senate wants to give the superintendent of state police powers to decide if a gun is illegal in order to prevent features like the bullet button from coming around.

It makes my head hurt. Pennsylvania is not prohibitively far... You can have this rock. The last shreds if American dignity were torn from New Yorkers in the dark of night today...

I dont see how a govt can have something perfectly legal one day then outlaw the thing and not compensate the owners that will become criminals if they dont get rid of the contraband? If the state wants to do something like this, they people should make them pay at least 3x the value for all the hassles it creates. jim

The answer you dont want to hear is. Vote them out, or move. If you cant get them out, vote with your feet. Dont keep abiding by their nonsense.

Has anyone talked about a judicial challenge? This seems like it might fly in the face of Heller.

I lived in NY (upstate) for 50 years and chose to vote with my feet. I took my "in demand" job and relocated to El Paso. The best part is that I got an instant 7% raise....no state income tax. To hell with NYC, Andrew Cuomo, and Mayor B. I am now enjoying legal suppressors, autos, and a great community of people.

Vote with your feet and hurt them with economics!:fire:

I don't why they didn't make it ten. a lot of companies already make 10 round magazines as an option, because of California's magazine laws. What, is New York trying to one up us in stupidity?

Bugger paying me at least 3X the value...

If the state wants to do something like this, they can lick the salt off the back of this retired Sailor's (reference to anatomy not posted due to site rules).

All they will have succeeded in doing with this law is increasing the number of criminals by orders of magnitude, simply by making thousands upon thousands of law abiding citizens criminals at the stroke of a pen.

As if law enforcement and the judicial system needs any more distractions from the business of, oh, I don't know...taking care of actual criminals and fruitcakes who like to do things like robbery, assault, murder, and shoot up schools.

EDIT:

By "If the state wants to do something like this..." I'm refering to both the state I live in and the federal government. I'm not a resident of New York.

garand en bloc clips come as five rounders from Cheaper Than Dirt, and can be modified with a dremel and pliers, once you have one as a model, out of your old 8 rounders.Though why anyone should have to is beyond me. The number is odd, and seems to me to be entirely arbitrary.

Another side note here:

I keep hearing from numbers of people from/in NY who don't agree with this.

My question is this: if the numbers of people who don't agree with things like this are as high as some people I've talked to, then why have I not seen any serious movements to vote these guys out of office so they can sit down and do things like, say, enjoy a nice, tall, ice cold 20 ounce glass of Coke or Pepsi?

Does anybody here have any idea what the actual split is on some of these bans?

well, yeah, but I am trying to keep them from getting sheared! Besides, I have a soft spot for Garands, and wouldn't want any old vets to think they had to get rid of them, just because of this.

BHP FAN - "I don't why they didn't make it ten. a lot of companies already make 10 round magazines as an option, because of California's magazine laws. What, is New York trying to one up us in stupidity?"

That is simple. There is always method to the madness of the Marxist Socialist Fascist inspired "liberal progressives." They know full well that no one makes seven round magazines for semi-auto rifles, and almost all semi-auto pistols. Therefore, virtually all semi-auto rifles and most pistols will be useless, and will garner the owner a long stay in the Graybar Hotel if he is caught with them or uses them for any reason.

These Marxist Socialist Fascist inspired "liberal progressives" have one thing in mind and that is to eventually disarm all gun owning worker peasants and serfs and establish their much longed for, much planned for Utopian Tyrannical Dictatorship.

They are truly wretched, evil monsters.

Quit complaining and contact your state firearms associations and NRA and ACLU and start to work on making this the quickest overturn in history.

I'm surprised that they beat California to it.
Welcome to the Outlaws Club. They have now given you license to act like one.

I have a soft spot for AR's but compliance with a BS restriction is obeyance to those who would love to take your god-given rights. Let the chains rest lightly my friend.

This proposed law is so over-reaching that a good argument can be made that it breaches the lines of the Heller/McDonald cases. I expect it to be instantly challenged in court.

So what happens if you have a pistol that has a 14 round magazine? Lets say they do not make a 10 or 7 round for it? Are you forced to sell it or become a criminal? This sickens me that a state in my country has let this happen. Now I fear what will follow on a national level...

..''Let the chains rest lightly my friend...''
thank you. I'm already chained, but in a ten round state...so far. This BS could be the test case for how much we'll swallow.

BTW, look at the bright side -- this horror story is an object lesson to the rest of the country of what the antis really want. Nobody will believe, on a national level, and especially in Congress, that the gun controllers are "in favor of the 2nd Amendment." The chances of a restrictive bill in Congress just went down tremendously. Gov. Cuomo can kiss his national political aspirations goodbye. My condolences to you New Yorkers.

how is this going to effect the suppliers located there. will outfits like GunPartsCorp be able to retain their inventory in state or will they be forced to move.
