I'm looking for a "tactical" semi auto shotgun that would be used for HD and possible match use and this from what I understand is one of the best autoloaders on the market. How versatile is this gun with different types of ammo? Will it handle cheap birdshot from Wal-Mart up to 3" magnum buckshot? How durable is it overall? What else should I know about it?

Mine will cycle game loads, but it can be picky with 7/8 oz. target loads. Buckshot and slugs (even the low recoil stuff) no problems.

I'm not a fan of the ghost ring sights, so mine has rifle sights. The 'tactical' stock (the one with the rear sling loop on the side of the stock) didn't allow me to use the rifle sights and the shim kits don't fit it, so I put on a field stock with the thickest shim and it fits perfectly now.

I'm not a fan of the pistol gripped 'tactical' stock either. The one I shot beat me worse than my pump gun.

Durability is not a problem with the Benelli. White wing dove shooters in Mexico run cases of ammo per day with nary a bobble. Waterfowl hunters use 'em for paddles when the motor dies.

Get a sling. I haven't put a single point on mine yet, but I may in the future. The best, bar none, carry sling you can put on one is the British Enfield web sling. Quick, easy adjustment and the wide, soft cotton canvas clings to your shoulder when you've got it slung. I've long used the GI cotton slings (either the rifle or M1 carbine) on all my long guns because they don't slip like nylon slings. The Enfield sling is even better, AFAIC.

Find one and enjoy.

While you're looking, watch for the Benelli M121. It's an 'old school' riot gun, predecessor to the Super Black Eagle, with oiled walnut stocks. While it has some idiosyncrasies, it has developed a cult following similar to the H&K P7. It's wicked fast, some say faster than the Super90.

Good luck with your Quest!

My M1 Super90 Tactical runs everything very well, from 7/8oz bird to 2 3/4 HV or regular buck/slugs. Mine has the factory ghost rings, but I changed out the pistol grip butt stock to a straight one (to ease reloading for me). Mine has never had an issue, except when trying to fire from a bench rest.

I currently run HV #6 for 3 gun matches, and keep oo Reduced Recoil buck and RR slugs for HD use.
