SO - What Ammo Is Still On The Shelves?

The current ammo shortage is not exactly new news.

But the purpose of this thread is for folks to report what boxes of ammo are still sitting on the shelves of their local outdoors/hunting store. It would be interesting to find out what hasn't been bought up in the nationwide mad panic.

For this thread ... let's focus on rifle ammo.
I will post a corresponding thread on the handguns section.

270, 30-06, 243, 12ga, 38 Special are on the shelves here.
308, 223, 9mm, 40 S&W, 22LR and 45 ACP are hard to come across, I know a place where I can get them at a fair price but you have to be there when the trick arrives because they will never see the shelf.
Think finding ammo is tough try finding a pound of IMR 4064, Varget, or a brick of Fed 210M Primers.

Walmart today had 4 boxes of CCI .22 Short and 3 boxes of CCI .22 WMR.
Also 5 boxes of 12 ga hunting loads.

That was it.

North Topeka Walmart had '06,270 ammo and some other basic huntung loads and calibers Thursday as well as shotgun shells aplenty. Rimfire was scarce with just some 22 shorts and 22WMR on the shelf.

KCMO Wal-Mart by my house was empty as of yesterday. All they had was some .243.

I did however score 20 boxes of Winchester 5.56 (55gr) for $160 from a local guy. He had some more Israeli 62gr 5.56 and 13 more boxes of the Winchester. Foolishly, I didn't buy it all. After I bought the 20 boxes he jumped the price on his ad from $8 to $12 a box.

The walmart around here has 270, 7mm Rem. Mag, 300 mag, and 243. There is no 357/38 special or 45 at Walmart, but the local shops seem to have plenty of American Eagle 45acp laying around. Good news for my 1911, but bad news for my 686

Off the top of my head at my work we have some .38 Special, some stupidly expensive .357, .270, .243, some 30-30, 30-06, 7.62x54r. I'm in Tempe, Az

Cabela's in Hoffman Estates still has a lot of shotgun ammo on the shelves, but slugs and buck mostly in 20 gauge. Some 9mm and 38 special. Need to check often since the ammo sells quickly.

Okay selection just seems hit and miss.

Around here I'm seeing some .45 acp, some 9mm, more .380s. Bought 2 boxes of 357 sig this morning. I could have bought more. Alot of 38s and .357 mags on the shelves. Seeing all the rifle calibers except the 223s or 5.56s.

I'm seeing 30-30, 270, 243, and a little 30.06, basically the main deer hunting calibers.

I'm always shocked how much .30-06 is on the shelves. I was at a large store the other day--one kind of .308, and it was almost gone... $39.99/20. There were about 2 dozen brands of .30-06 fully stocked. Makes me feel silly going with a PTR91 over an M1 Garand because the .308 is cheaper (more mil-surp stuff) and more available.

Yesterday my favorite LGS had every cartridge except 22LR. But almost no powder.

The big box store I visited had all their normal centerfire rifle calibers including milsurps. rimfire ammo was limited to shorts and 22 magnum. Pistol calibers were really out. Only cowboy loads of 38spc and 45 colt left.

People are more worried about the SHTF calibers then old mil-surp or hunting cartridges. Things are going back to normal now though, saw 45 ACP on the shelf today and 223 last week, reloading supplies are still a little slim though since there are a BUNCH of new reloaders out there since this scare, still cannot find any suitable 308 or 223 powders anywhere, good thing I have a nice stash

I've noticed that here in west TN ammo is starting to become more available a little higher priced than it was but I also have been going around to the smaller ffl guys to find what I've been able to. I've been able to find all the calibers I need by taking a "path less travelled" approach. I'm not patient enough or even have the time to sit around waiting for the big box stores to unload their shipments

Plenty here in Flemming Co. Kentucky. Anything you want, but price is climbed 33% or so since november on Nato rifle and all handgun. .22 is scarce oddly enough.

Wally World here had .22 short, .22 WMR along with the standard rifle rounds (.270 .30-06 .30-30 etc).
No .22 lr, .223, 9mm, .40, .45 acp to be found.

All of the ammo available to me is unfortunately not the ones I use, so I don't pay heavy attention, but it seems like .270 and 30-30 are almost always there, and 12 ga. in all variety except buckshot and slugs.

Saw a couple boxes of .38 special today though (which I have a use for), but it was HD rounds at about $.75 a round. Not paying that.

Happened to get lucky the other night and hit Wally-World just as they got a shipment in, and scored two boxes of Winchester white-box .40 S&W. Haven't seen it actually on the shelf in about two months though.

In North Carolina, btw.

(Edit) Oh...for those in the area, .410 slugs are readily available, however. So...if you've got one, stock up. You may appreciate them. (FYI, I go after slugs only because I can use them at indoor ranges)

Rifle ammo here in Eastern Iowa: Walmart has 7 or 8 boxes of .22 ratshot, about a dozen boxes of .17HMR. Gander Mountain's rifle ammo isle was, as of last week, featuring 30cal. Surplus ammo cans (all empty storage cans) and .17HMR spanning the entire length of the top shelf, approx. 25 ft. in a single line. Think I spotted a returned/damaged box of 22-250 and another in .303 Local gunshow today had ammo in boxes I haven't seen since the '80s piled on every table. Specials seen were 5.56 tracers priced at $400/420 and a $60 box of Fiocchi FMJ 50 rounds. Also spotted a $36 box of MiniMags with the old packaging. Sad.

Good news is my basement has plenty in all calibers, thousands of bullets, several dozen pounds of powder and, as of yesterday, another 800 or so pieces of 5.56 brass to add to the pile.
