The current ammo shortage is not exactly new news.

But the purpose of this thread is for folks to report what boxes of ammo are still sitting on the shelves of their local outdoors/hunting store. It would be interesting to find out what hasn't been bought up in the nationwide mad panic.

For this thread ... let's focus on handgun ammo.
I will post a corresponding thread on the handguns section.

Easy to find .357 SIG around me. .380 Auto and 10mm are fairly available. 9mm and .40 S&W are very difficult to find.

Walmart today had 4 boxes of CCI .22 Short and 3 boxes of CCI .22 WMR.
Also 5 boxes of 12 ga hunting loads.

That was it.

Most of what I've seen on shelves is mostly revolver ammunition, like .357 mag, .38 special, .45 Colt, .44 mag, and as of last night when I went to my LGS the only semi-auto pistol ammo I saw was some limited boxes of .40 S&W, .45 acp, and .380 acp. Rim-fire ammunition was mostly .17 HMR with a few boxes of .22 mag. What I haven't seen in a while is 9mm & .22 LR. LM

I was at my local Academy last night and all they had was Federal 10mm HPs. I bet they had 20 boxes

I guess for the exercise & for the hell of it, I go to local Wal Marts & Academy's about 10 times a week. I've found 9mm once in the last 3 months in a Wal Mart, and can come across .40 S&W at least once a week. Those are the two calibers I have. I know I've seen .45 and .22 here and there but not very often.

I was at Cabela's a few days ago and they had 9 mm Luger, 40 S&W, 38 Special, 223 Remington & probably others I didn't notice.

.30Tokarev is still available--you might even get your choice of brands from some retailers. 10mm can be found in some places. .38Super is available.

.357Mag, .38Spl, .44Mag, .44Spl, .32ACP are still out there if you poke around, especially if you want self-defense ammo, as opposed to plinking fodder.

Also, if you're willing to pay a premium, you can still occasionally find "boutique" ammo in virtually any caliber you choose.

It's really not that hard to find handgun ammunition. What's hard to find right now is the relatively economical stuff you'd want to take to the range and shoot for practice.

They line up in front of our local Academy an hour or so before opening then buy up whatever has come in. They haven't started camping out over night yet.

Went to my local Cabelas today, only .45 they had was Golden Sabers for $35 per 25. Had a lot of rifle ammo except for .223/5.56 and .308

Los Angeles ... shotgun shells and a few boxes of 45 acp.
@ Turners Outdoorsman.
If you want anything else - word is you've gotta' camp out at the entrance to the store when the ammo truck arrives. People are buying it before they can even unload it and get it into the store :)

The regular places (Walmart ,academy and such)are out of everything. My LGS has everything except 9mm, 22, and 223. My "honey hole" has everything except 22.
Around these parts 22 has been scarce for more than 6 months.
I would have been doing fine if it had not been for that d@mn freak boating accident.

It's funny -- I hit a gander mountain in SE Michigan yesterday, and there was lots of .40, but no .380. I don't remember seeing 9mm, but I wasn't looking for it, either.

No .22 aside from shot. No .223

I have all the ammo I need so I quit looking for more. I suspect looking for ammo at big chin stores is waste of time.

Different places have spotty availability, as deliveries arrive, and folks hoard. The more popular cartridges are generally unavailable, except for the premium JHPs. I recently acquired my first .380 pistols, and cannot find any FMJ to get the break-in/function-testing started. I have been able to find several types of premium JHP at various places in southwest Houston and Fort Bend County, Texas, in the last week.

I still have ammo for my long-favored carry weapons, having learned the lessons of previous ammo scares, so the lack of .380 is merely inconvenient. There is no particular hurry to start carrying my Walthers. Of more concern is the .22 LR situation; as I get older, and recoil is taking a toll on my formerly stronger wrist, I am wishing I had bought far less .40 in years past, and spent the money on bricks of .22 LR.

My local store has just about everything including the practice-type ammo. Some is restricted for range use (1 box at a time) but it wouldn't be hard to make a few trips to the counter.

Last time i checked my local Wally world was out of all handgun ammo and only a few boxes of shotgun shells. At Dunham's sports I had to wait in line on truck day to get my limit of 4boxes of 45acp, only boxes of 45 they have had in weeks.

They ran out of .22, 9mm, and 380 within about 5mins. Only thing I noticed on the shelf was things like 44-40, 32acp, 44sp, 44mag and 50.

You pretty much have to show up on truck day, get your name on the "clip-board list" then wait for your name to be called and hope they still have what you want.

That seems surreal,.......absurd. In old days behind Iron Curtain there were lines for: meat, bread,......this can be understood, but there is no way to rationalize behavior of people waiting in line for ammunition.

Shelves are bare at the LGS. Been that way for weeks.

I saw 10mm at Academy and 45LC in Walmart.
I bought a case of 9mm Makarov and I thought the Young Man in the store was going to carry it out to the Truck for me. He said "Five times a day someone carries that case up here and I have to tell them, that wont fit your 9mm, and then I have to carry it back," He was smiling ear to ear when I sat it on my shoulder and walked out with it.
Some folks ought to see what a good deal those Little P64's are.
