So where do I go from here?

But you already said in your first post:

I didn't think you needed to hear what you already said.

You sound a little a little hostile, everyone from what I see here is trying to help you and trying to reassure you that your skills will not disappear just because you can't fire thousands of rounds right now. Remember, you are the one who went to the extreme of saying, "So the question is: do I continue to carry?"

You ask for help and then get annoyed when the suggestions don't fit what you think we should tell you. I hope you work this out in your mind but I do know I won't be watching this drama from here on.
Im not trying to be hostile in the least. however I came on here with an honest question about inexpensive ways that i can maintain a safe level ofcompetency with my firearm. And i was greeted with people telling me that im over thinking the sitution, and that I basically have delusions of grandeur.

Ok, sorry if we offended. You did ask "should I continue to carry," which is sort of a nutty questions, especially if practice alternatives was really your interest.

Anyway, agreed, dryfire and airsoft are fabulous alternatives.

yep - I'm all out of ammo so I have nothing to do now but work on getting fast at running away.

I've been working on running the 50 yard dash while zig-zagging.

I've been doing it for a week now and my times are getting better. :)

Haha! Yeah I got a gym membership to improve my running away abilities.

This is the beauty of reloading, even with a very basic setup like mine.

Get a couple bricks of primers, 2# of powder, save/scrounge range brass and buy lead bullets. You'll have 2000 rounds stored in the closet before you know it at 1/4 the cost of nonexistent factory ammo. Cast your own bullets, it gets even cheaper.

Consider attending IDPA/IPSC matches if you can. They typically require less than 200 rounds per, and the skills learned are invaluable, much more than just plinking at a range.

An analogy. You have a diesel car, and suddenly gas stations stop carrying diesel. However there is a plentiful supply of used vegetable oil at the local restaurants, so you can either sit there at home frustrated or fabricate a homemade filter system to make your own fuel.
