**Official: How much do you spend on Ammo Thread**

Why would you guys even want to know how much you spend, that takes all the fun oyt of it. When my wife asked how much IDPA shooting was, easy, $15/day range fee. Ammo is free because I have shelves full of it.

Have a freind who is a senior member of a SWAT team. He get's me all the handgun and 5.56/.223 I could ever need. I still have to supply my own hunting rifle and .454 Casull ammo, none of which I shoot in high volumes.

hmm, he probably wouldn't want you throwing that fact around on a public forum. I know it certainly doesn't make me very happy to think that taxpayers dollars are funding your private shooting... :scrutiny:

I've had to really cramp down on ammo costs. I'll be honest, I tend to save centerfire ammunition up for good stuff, like if I get to take a class or shoot a match or something. I shoot tons of nice cheap .22 LR. I'll shoot like 300 rounds of .22 LR and then about 50-100 rounds of centerfire ammunition, and alternate.

I've spent around 2-3 thousand per year up to this point.

Ben Shepherd, I initially misread this as saying "I've spent around 2-3 thousand this year up to this point." I was thinking, man, it's only January 5! Do you have a machine gun chambered in 6.5mm Arisaka or something?

As for me, Excalibur said it best.

Taxpayers don't pay for this ammo. Most of it is confiscated and has to be shot up or disposed.

Man, you guys spend a LOT! WOW! Here's what I spend mer month, then per year accordingly.

Per Month:
1000rds. of .22lr=$25.00

100rds. of 7.62x39=$40-50

150-350rds of 12 gauge shells=$30-$70

Per year:

.22lr-$25x12=$300

7.62x39-$300(don't shoot it all the time, I need bulk rate bullets.)

12gauge-$300-$500

Jeez...$1000+ is more than I thought. Ouch. Not to mention clay targets and whatnot.

I prefer not to think about it....I shoot roughly 8000 rounds a year of 45 acp, 9 mm, 357 mag, 38 special, 22lr, 308, and 223

I don't want to talk about it...

I just did my shooting/training/competition budget for 2007, part of which included adding up all the ammo expended in 2006. Between 9mm, .40, .223, and shotgun, I'm up close to $2000 in ammo last year. It'll be more this year.

Sigh.

I cheat a little bit...

I get all of my ammo at wholesale prices, and when I order it by the case, it gets shipped to my door for free.

Just one of the benefits of having a business license and a sales permit.

i spend a bunch on components. only ammo i buy is .22, 380, and 9mm. oh, add .32 acp, but i dont shoot a lot of small stuff. .38S is my low limit and not much of that except in the 642. i prefer to shoot GUNS. i have Rugers in the safe now begging for attention.

ok, how much a year - i have no idea, but surely not as much as some posters admit to.

i cant leave this thread without recommending that if you dont, do, start reloading, it is part of the shooting enjoyment thing. when it is nasty outside you have a hobby to turn to, stocking up for fairer weather. and, those of you spending thousands a year can buy the best reloading tools there is and have a boodle left over for components and taking your best girl to dinner. there was a member on TFL that recommended killing your TV. good idea. i dont watch much but the outdoor channel. the wife reloads her own so we have some "quality" time in the loading room. as an aside, how many guys do you know whose wife has three model 29s. two sixes and a four inch. purty too.

good to see so many ppl doing lots of shooting, reloading or not.

So far this year $0. Last year $0. I don't shoot as often as I like but money has been a bit tight for the past year or so, this leaves me shooting more 22 and some of my reserves. Luckily for me I have quite a bit of reserves still left so I might be able to squeeze out another $0 year.

I hit the range 1-2 times a week. I do reload also but I really haven't kept track of what I spend because it's probably more than I care to know about--Plus if the wife knew how much I spend--that would not be a good thing

I DON'T KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS REALLY SAVED ANY MONEY BY RELOADING, MOST PEOPLE MYSELF INCLUDED JUST GO SHOOTING AT LEAST TWICE AS MUCH. IT OPENS UP A WHOLE NEW FIELD IN THIS HOBBY OF OURS IT ALSO CAN ENCOURAGE YOU TO BUY GUNS IN AWESOME CALIBERS THAT YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE CONCIDERED DUE TO COST OF FACTORY LOADS OR AVAILABILITY AND IT'S SOMETHING FUN TO DO WHEN IT'S CRAPPY OUTSIDE.:)

Wow, I've never really added it up and I'm not sure I want to. I know my expenditure just in .22 LR is around $1,000 a year and I shoot centerfire and muzzleloaders about as much as I shoot rimfires. Thank God for reloading, casting and bulk powder discounts.

I take a check for $25 to the gunshop every Saturday. I am stocking up on components as I plan to retire soon and my income is going to plunge. I have about 10k rounds of .22lr on hand and lots of bullets, brass, powder and primers. Monday I will order a thousand .223 bullets as I am getting low on those and the gunshop doesn't have them in bulk.
