So you have a carry gun that functions flawlessly? Or perhaps you have a new home defense handgun you would like to put through its paces to see how well it can perform? Then this will be a fun and informative match for you!

2008's ISHOT1000 match was a great time and yielded some interesting results (see http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=359392&highlight=ishot1000). There are still some guns left untested and some questions to be answered so we are announcing the 2009 IISHOT1000 to be held on 2 May 2009 in Forestburg, Texas. (Forestburg is north of the DFW metroplex.)

The purpose of the match will be the same as last year - 1000 round function testing of guns to see which makes and models perform best. The match will also be designed to challenge the shooter, to be entertaining, and to provide useful trigger time.

There will be no maintenance of ANY kind allowed during the course of twenty, 50 round stages. Malfunctions will be recorded and the results will be posted after the match. While the last match involved a lot of blasting at various stationary and moving targets but no accuracy scoring, this match will include some specific stages that will challenge shooter skills and further test the abilities of the gun. At least four stages will be competitive shooter stages, of which two will address speed (best time) and two will address marksmanship (best score/group). All stages will be shot with a time limit.

Requirements:
Semi-auto carry/defense handgun (.380 caliber or larger)
8 magazines that hold at least 7 rounds each
Holster (or appropriate case)
Standard safety gear (eye/ear)
1000 rounds of factory ammunition (Reloads did not perform well at all last year. The match is not designed to test the reliability of ammunition but rather the reliability of the handguns.)

No Entry Fee is Required
All awards will be in the form of certificates which indicate the performance of the shooter/handgun combination.

I have three I would enter: S&W 457/45ACP, Sig 226/40S&W and a S&W 5904 /9mm. Too far to go though.

For anyone who is even THINKING that a match like this may be a lot of fun, you would be right. It's a chance to meet new people, make friends, and an excuse to put 1000 rounds down range in a single day. Who knows? You might even have the opportunity to learn something about your choice of defensive gear or, Heaven forbid, yourself.

Double Naught Spy and the range cadre are a great group of guys and fine hosts. They encourage everyone to have fun,yet have the chance to push themselves and equipment a little harder than most trips to the range would afford. All while keeping a sharp eye out for the sake of safety.

If last year is any indication, there will be some folks who have knowledge and experience of the shooting arts and are willing to answer even "stupid" questions from a novice. All without being pushy or preaching their "TRUE DOGMA." That alone is worth the price of admission.

I look forward to seeing some of the old faces from last year and some new ones to boot. To learning something new and hopefully improving my performance from last year. To blowing through months worth of ammo allowance in a single day and knowing that it is absolutely worth it.

Yes, it's far. Ammo is expensive. You have to get up early. You may not have a perfect run because of a few grains of unburnt powder in the wrong place, a bad primer, or operator error. You may even miss a target! But at the end of the day, you'll have a tired smile on your face. Try it!

You know, if you want to bring one, we will make an exception. The 5.7 is still a fairly obscure and very expensive caliber and to be quite honest, I didn't think we gave it a second thought as a result.

Oops. My bad.

Note to self, 'Self, read entire thread before posting questions.'

Thanks,

bad salty
