The Nazis...

wore white pointed hats? Wow, I really hate those guys. I had no idea the Nazis were also in the KKK. Sheesh. The Nazis were truly scumbags.

and not EVERY FBI guy, SWAT guy, Commando Guy uses a 1911. Some do, some don't. The 1911 is a fine pistol, but some people want something different. Lets not get our undies in a twist over someone's opinion.

A 1911 is a style choice, and in combat sir function comes before style.

So, sir, how about you go tell that to the contractors over there who carry it? And what happened to "to each his own"? I personally think I'd do better with a 1911. It fits in my hand like it was built just for it, my personal 1911 is very reliable, I shoot well with it, what more could one ask for from a defensive sidearm? I really don't see how combat has changed so much that it's rendered the 1911 obsolete. Would you care to enlighten me and all us other heathens who worship the golden calf? You choose your sidearm, I'll choose mine.

He got permanently banned for that?

Good god....
Can't we all try to get along?
I've noticed quite a few people on the site who veil insults they direct at other members, but the ones who come right out and say something get reported and then slapped around by mods. Since this is 'The High Road' shouldnt all members be prohibited from insulting other members PERIOD?
That should mean even the cowards who choose to disguise insults be treated accordingly.

The gun hate threads are a good example, someone posts saying a gun is trash and unreliable, only to piss off the people who own one. We can all respectfully disagree without name calling or talking bad about a mans gun.

While I don't agree with attacking others (we all lose our tempers sometimes), I can respect someone who comes right out and says whats on their mind. Being straight forward is better than disguising insults and attempting to make it look like part of the discussion. That's cowardly and I've seen it plenty. But that's just my opinion and the action taken against 'sheepdog_tx' made me take step back and re-evaluate a few things. There are quite a few people on the site looking for trouble, and the ones who bash others guns are just looking for attention.

Some members who've been around a while (who are NEITHER mods or admins) seem to think they can do whatever the hell they want.
One person sent me a PM and in so many words told me that if I didn't want action taken against me I should watch what I say. Well I've got news for you, I may have only registered here recently but I've known of the site for a long time and having an earlier registration does not give somebody the right to insult or talk down to anyone! There are plenty of moderators and admins on the site, they don't need someone with ZERO authority threatening other members.

I've got to think most gun owners are more upfront and honest than this, and that some people are the exception. I'd like to see zero tolerance for such tactics being used by some. Instigating trouble or saying just enough to bait a response. These rabble-rousers are not hard to spot.
:banghead:
RANT OFF>>

Just so this post isnt totally off topic, if you somebody shoots a 1911 better than any other gun why not carry one to protect your life?
A high capacity 1911 is not a bad choice at all. I'd stick with Springfield, Kimber, or Para.

Your the one using it, use that works for YOU. I would personally be lookinf for something I shot good with a good bit of knock down power and some Hi-Cap mags. And it has to be UBER-reliable. For me its a Glock.

All though my current fighting pistol is a Para P-14 .45acp with five 15 round mags on belt + one in gun carried in a G Code Ready Tac rig, I have a 92f Italian stallion (Barsto Barrel ,tricked trigger and LPA sights) in that sissy nato caliber that I also have a Ready Tac for and the 5 spare mag set up for. I was planning on using the 92 f in 'stan while being a tech rep, but Detroit Diesel Inc. are a bunch of fascist wimps and didn't want a 'loose cannon' who could defend his self.:cuss: so renigged on the contract!:fire:
Oh well either gun with an 870 with 50+ slugs to go along and the best body armor money can buy I would feel I could defend my self "overthere". Only would need a rifle to go huntin;)

Not sure what it was as the markings weren't in anything resembling English. It had a collapsing stock that you could barely tell was there when it was collapsed, had a full slide rather than a bolt, and the bottom of the barrel was longer than the top to create a sort of compensator effect I guess. The stock was fairly sturdy also. The whole thing wasn't much larger than an M9.
Polish subgun, PM83 if I remember correctly. It's a bit awkward cause the slide can go for your cheek or nose.

my M9 functioned beautifully in the box, but if I could have a choice I'd have to stick with my G17

You already have the XD 45, you're used to it, I would assume you can shoot well with it, why change something your used to, especially if your life depends on it.

You may have unlimited ammo, but do you have access to a range or will you be able to practice? If not, again stick with what you know, and that is the XD.

Why people would recommend a 1911 when the XD holds more of the same exact ammo is beyond me. That doesn't make sense in my book.

Minimum power level of a 10mm. I'm probably going to be using it to pop some suicidal jihadist through body armor before he can blow me up.

Probably a Glock20, just for serviceability and polymer frame. Gimme some AP rounds for it from somebody's 10mm subgun and I'm good to go. Stagger every other bullet, JHP, AP, JHP, AP...

Oh now I feel great - someone got banned in one of my threads, such great responses too.

Hey, I don't quite get the 1911 thing either, but then, someone else probably doesn't get my Hk USP thing.

Sorry it turned out that way - definitely not my intention.

Moderators - Any chance you could give the guy another try, if only for my over-sensitive guilt complex

Make mine any of the high grade full sized 1911's. Double or single stack, either is fine. Double Tap Ammo's 230 grain loads.

I heard that not all the contractors get to choose their own personal weapon (e.g. Blackwater contractors). Furthermore, my understanding is that AR15/M16 weapon system suffer from reliability problem in extreme dust due to gas impingement system requiring frequent cleaning (may not always be possible in Iraq and Afghanistan due to dust storm and ever present dust).

So my choice will probably be chopped down AK47 (14.5" barrel with flash hider) with Ultimak mounted EOTech 552 with 3 railed forend, side-clamping pistol grip, SF 6P/G2 with LED head, and shortest side-folding ACE Galil style folder. For personal sidearm, I will probably choose either Glock 21 or 17. If it's G21, it would have grip reduction because I have medium sized hand, otherwise G17.

PS
nothing wrong with BHP or 1911, but Glock is lighter, and when you are toting weight outside of range, lighter is almost always better.

All this just bores and exhausts me. As all of our troopers before us and all men who are involved today, rely more on the training and the man next to them than the weapon.

It is the Indian and not the arrow.

Please, let us have an intellicual discuss and not insult each other.

I'll take a pump shot gun and S&W 686, if you really want to see the arguments get started how about the radio for air or fire support.

I would carry a colt commander, prolly a lwt, as I would expect to never need it. I would not be opposed to swaping the commander for a mini uzi in 9 nato. If i need something beside the rifle, have the mini might be comforting. The rifle part, I would probably find out what the rest of the team was carrying and join in, for weapons exchange, mag exchange, etc. the M14 might be the coolest thing, but if everybody else is carry Ak or AR's and you get stuck running low on ammo, you are up the sewage filled estuary. While never serving, I have been around enough guys who all say that passing ammo around happens at least once in a while. Needing
308 when everyone else has 7.62x 39 sux.

Ammo is no option eh!!!

In order that they would be,"shot down", by the contracting firm, here are my selections...
1. FN-P90
2. H&K PDW
3. A select fire FN 5.7 pistol
4. Glock 18
And after they shot down all those requests, I'd go with a full sized Glock in .40, then find an M-16 or AK varient to buy as soon as we hit,"the sand box":neener: :D !! Better safe than sorry:uhoh: Still 2 Many Choices!?

My sidearm

My personal choice would be my G21. I shoot it passably well, it holds a lot of my favortie round, and is reliable. If I had one and had plenty of time to become proficient with it's use before going overseas, I would probably switch to a G20. It has greater magazine capacity, Glock reliability, and, from what I've read on this site, comparable ballistic performance to a .357 Magnum. Hard to beat.

I was a security-contractor over there for a year. Let's see, I carried a Browning Hi-Power everywhere, initially an MP5 but dumped it quickly for an AK47 and when I was rear-gunner, an M249 or Russian PKM (7.62x54R).

Pistol of choice, if I'd been permitted, would have been a 1911a1 or a Glock 21.

10 mm all the way. You don't want someone to have a second chance to pull the pin. Glock 20, I would say.

Hi,

What made you switch from an MP5 to an AK47? Is it that it uses far more powerful rounds?

All seem excellent choices...

...but as mentioned, get what works best for you. If you've found it's the XD, more power to you-the XD is a fine weapon. If it fit better in my hands, I'd have a hard time not choosing it. I have very little experience with Glocks, so I cannot honestly speak for or against them. Others swear by them, and I haven't really heard anything bad about them, so they must be decent. I own several HKs, and I love them, but I'm not sure of their reliability in sand-sorry, no experience there. Plenty of S&W revolvers, too, and they always go bang no matter what.

Personally, I'd opt for my mil-spec Springfield Armory 1911A1 .45ACP which has Novac sights and Micarta (sic?) grips. The 1911 has always been a workhorse, and it has seen some serious time-honored testing. My grandfather (Navy) carried one, my father (Navy) carried one, and my brother (Marines) will be carrying one soon. If they are good enough for them, then they are good enough for me. Besides, the truth is in the fact that even today (almost 100 years later) the design is not only still relevant, but virtually the same! If the Marines, FBI, and LAPD SWAT have switched to them in spite of all the other excellent designs out there, I'm sold. I'd also have a wheel gun as a back-up, too.
