Recently, I was cleaning out my garage and I found half a case of old .380 ammo. The only problem is that I am currently without a .380 pistol with which to shoot up the ammo. So, I'm taking this opportunity to get another .380 pistol.

I've had a couple .380s previously, a Walther PPK and a Kel-tec P3AT. Both were somewhat unpleasant to shoot. Since this will be primarily a range gun, I'm looking for the easiest shooting .380 I can find. Price, within reason, isn't too important.

So, what's the softest shooting .380 pistol currently on the market?

Thanks,

-John

Beretta 84 or 85, CZ83, all large and relatively soft shooting for a .380 blow back pistol.

any "full size" all steel (upwards of 20 oz unloaded), preferably locked breech (or at least delayed blowback) vs. straight blowback

Colt Government excellent, but current production, no

currently on the market?
Beretta 84/85's or a CZ83 or Sig 232, yes, all very shootable, though the Sig (like Walther) is prone to "slide bite" some folks, so do be aware of that
I think Browning is doing the Browning BDA again, outstanding

The Walther PK380 is the smoothest of all..

the 380's I have shot. My 11 year old grand daughter can shoot it and rack the slide with little effort.

Ahh, that's what I truly love about this forum.

Only a true gun lover would find a few boxes of ammo that he had 'no' gun for and decide he 'needed' a gun of that caliber to fire the ammo.

I recently found a few boxes of 20 gauge from a hunting trip about 15 years ago that my buddy left in my possession.

Of course I started looking at 20 gauge shotguns online to shoot the ammo. :D

Good luck in your search, John. I don't currently own a .380, but wouldn't mind trying some of the suggested models.

Happy Shooting. :)

Another vote for the Kahr. Recognizing that recoil is subjective; my PPK, LCP, MicroDeserrtEagle are much less enjoyable to shoot than my Kahr.

However, while I have no experience with them, I do believe that any larger-framed, all-metal gun would be more pleasant than the Kahr.

Thanks, fellas, for the suggestions. I'm pleasantly surprised at the wide variety of examples. (Which is exactly why I posted the question). Right now I'm looking at a Makarov in .380, mostly for price ($275 off gunsamerica or gunbroker) or a Colt Government model or Sig P238.

Also, I really hadn't heard anything about the Walther PK380. I'll have to check that out.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

-John

If you rack the slide on the Walther PK 380 first...

you will not bother with the others listed. It is smooth as butter.

I'm also hopping on board and recommending the PK380. My brother has one that I've shot hundreds of flawless rounds through. I feel like I am shooting a pellet gun.

I've only shot a very limited number of .380's, but I have a commercial Makarov in .380 that I find very nice to shoot. I kinda wish .380 was cheaper (as from a materials standpoint it seems like it would be), as I'd really like it for target shooting.

a friend of mine got his wife a Bersa 380 and they both love it. Recoil isn't half bad and very accurate. I haven't shot it just going on what they say about it.
