With the current market and an unreliable at best shoulder joint my .50 Beowulf met the chopping block. While the recoil isn't that bad, firing it repeatedly can be a touch abusive. Really, who wants to slow fire a Beowulf. I'd been hunting for a S&W 44 Special to fuel my new found love for the round. I think it is very under appreciated and capable. While searching for a new toy with the proceeds of the AR sale, I found this gem. An unfired 24-3 Lew Horton. I'm just glad, being that it is older than I, someone had the foresight to hold onto it for me. I can't wait to break it in.

I paid a pretty penny for it but I'm ok with that given it is unfired.

Very nice.

I would take that over any AR no matter how many function swiss army knife was hanging off of it.

That almost looks. . . . . glamerous, actually. Nice find!

I recently sold an AR as well. I am bidding on an older Marlin 39a for some fun 22 caliber shooting, and to go with my Ruger 3 screw Single Six. Though ARs are fun, . . . not nearly as much character as that, . . . . or the gem you got. Happy shooting!

It looks brand new! I love my AR's,but also love my revolvers. They're what I started on years ago,and no matter how many high-capacity pistols I buy(then sell), I always fall back on my revolvers. My 1911 has a home though!

While the AR (as a .50 Beowolf), does have some notable attributes it can never match the intrinsic beauty of a fine revolver like that. Enjoy.

Glad to know the consensus is I did right. As the owner of the shop put it when he saw it "This is a meat and potatoes gun. The one you want under your pillow when something goes bump in the night." After fondling it for a few minutes, I can't agree more. The heft and balance are perfect. After trying the Skeeter Skelton load in my Taurus 445 per rcmodel's recommendation, I'm dying to run a few through this. I have a feeling this Smith with that load will be a winning combination.

Anytime you can trade one you don't or can't use for one you can and will, its a good deal. Your trade looks particularly good, congrats. Those are great shooters.

I *love* those lew horton 24s. The prices will still continue to climb, so don't sweat that. You have one accurate, fast handling N, right there. Congratulations!

It's tough when it comes time to trade in an old friend, but I think the AR would understand. Haha! That's a great gun. Do you plan on shooting it or sending her into imediate retirement?

That is a eye dropping gorgeous gun! Wow.
I too, have an affection for the .44 Special. Are you a handloader? I have loaded some supremely accurate .44 special rounds over the years, they feel like shooting a .22 mag rimfire out of my Super Blackhawk. That is to say, recoil is almost non-existent. PM me if you want the recipe.
Great trade!

That IS gorgeous.

BUT to imply all AR's have no soul is insulting and seems disingenuous, IMHO. My Daniel Defense AR has no wood, but much soul and personality. It lives a good life in the dark with all my wood guns in the safe and plays nice in the light of day even with revolvers. :D

Do you plan on shooting it or sending her into imediate retirement?

I don't own safe queens. I plan on shooting the snot out of it. That's why I'm so glad someone left it unfired until now just for me.

I would take that gun for an AR any day and agree the AR-15 is souless. I've had 4 of them thru the years and they were always sent down the road. Just couldn't warm up to them. A Garand, 1903A3, M1a, a nice bolt gun, SA revolver, or 1911, now we're talking.

No magazines, cheap ammo, non-military/assault pedigree... Looks like a step in the right direction for this day and age.
Wait!
Doesn't that border on a "Saturday Night Special" for the loose interpreters on the other side?

I love it and it's one hell of an aesthetic jump up from an AR. I'd give one of mine in an instant for one of your's exactly as shown.

Congrats.

There aren't a lot of bargains out there, but with the current craze for black rifles and handguns ("if it don't shoot 35 rounds without reloading, it ain't worth havin' ") there are some decent buys on "real" guns: blue, case hardened, silver and wood.....
