sold my g19 gen4..now i want a g26..

So... i got rid of my gen 4 glock 19 for 2 reasons, most importantly could not get used to the grip because of the finger grooves, and secondly was having issues with erratic ejection(it had the older ejector) i am sure that if i would have replaced the ejector it would have been just fine.
Now i find myself wanting a g26.. debating going gen3 or gen4.. will i likely run into the same issues with ejection with either of these? BTW-by erratic ejection i mean every 5 or 6 rds the brass would be over the head or top of the head.. We are assuming that i can get comfortable with the grip of the g26! I believe my second choice would be the m&p9c(any known issues with the m&p 9c?)
My uses would be for self defense. Conceal carry, maybe pocket carry?

Yes, you're likely to have the same issues. Finger grooves and "erratic ejection" are both present.

Personally, I care not about how my Glocks eject. If the empty brass is tossed out of the pistol and it cycles fine, I really don't care which cardinal direction it goes, or how far. The G26 is a great concealed carry pistol, but I wouldn't count on it for pocket carry. While there are some folks on these forums who will talk about pocket carrying, there's no way I could pull it off. Pistol weighs too much and is too wide, so it prints.

As far as finger grooves, and I'm saying this as a Glock guy, you might want to try some other pistols to see if there's something out there that fits you better.

You will see no difference in the gen3 vs the gen4 as far as performance. Included with the gen 4 is: 3 mags and two extra back straps. My wife has the 3 and I have the 4. They both run flawless. As far as ejection is concerned, the both spit brass over my head.
If you have a problem with the finger grooves, you may want to consider the m&p9c or the SA xdsc9mm.

I own a Gen3 and a Gen4 19 and a Gen3 26; all with finger grooves. I also own a Gen2 17 and Gen2 20 without finger grooves. I don't find the absence or presence of finger grooves to be a factor in shooting proficiency. The amount you practice, practice and practice more is generally a far more important factor.

As to ejection, over the past 50+ years I've had empties tossed in all directions as well as down my shirt, onto my hat and lodged between my glasses frame and face. Just a part of my chosen hobby kind of like small cuts are for cooks and knife makers.

The G26 is an excellent carry pistol. I have been carrying mine a lot recently (due to the weather) in a Galco Kingtuk. Hides well under a large T-shirt. I have never pocket carried it, I wouldn't want to.

I can't really say if you will have the same issues or not. I have never had a Glock that consistently ejects brass in the same spot. I never really cared , as long as it functions properly. I once read that the erratic ejection is due to the overly large extractor claw. Dont know for sure though. The finger grooves can be removed if they bother you. I am debating removing them from mine.

Most people that shoot my G26 are impressed at how well the little pistol handles and shoots. It is definitely a fine shooting piece.

I use to own a M&P9c and it was also a good shooter. Either way you go, you should be well served.

Hopefully you realize that a Gen3 or Gen4 Glock 26 has the exact same finger grooves that caused you to get rid of your G19?

Unless you are Andre the Giant and the cases are hitting you in the face I do not see how the ejection path would be of any importance.

I haven't found this to be the case. The Glock compact is the only size of Glock that doesn't fit my hand to suit me. Full size and sub-compact models (G26 is my EDC) fit just fine, but the finger grooves on the compact models fall in the wrong place to fit me comfortably.

Any new stock will have the new ejector and will not send brass anywhere but to the side.

I always liked the 17 over the 19 because the finger grooves didn't fit my hand well. The 26 has the same spacing as the 17 for the finger grooves.

In these pictures I have the 26 on top of a 34. Same spacing. Feels like the same gun just without a place for the pinky, which doesn't really effect shoot ability as far as I can see.

Get the 26 you'll love it.

Honestly, how bad are the finger grooves? Just get used to them. They're not a big deal. There is no functional difference between a gen 3 or 4 G26.

I have a Gen 4 17 and a Gen 4 26.I used to have a Gen 3 19 which to me is the perfect size,except of the fact the finger groove position feels wrong to me.
I've been pocket carrying my G26 for a over a year now.

Same here. The 17 and 26 feel great in my hands. The 19 not so much.

Yesterday while window shopping..I handled just about every glock model possible.

The 17 fits my hand like a glove. The 26 feels good too. The 19/23 definitely felt cramped.

There are quite a few threads on the ejections issues that have plagued some of the late model (> 2010) Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glocks (mostly 9mm?). It sounds like a fix via a well respected, third party gunsmith may be available soon.

G26 is nice. Have you considered the HK P2000 and/or P2000sk, especially with the V2 LEM trigger? Also, it seems that, as an alternative to Glock, many people seem find the Walther PPQ very favorable.

A new extractor and ejector from Glock is the fix. I had the issues, sent in my Gen 4 G26 for repairs and they sent it back with new parts. No more issues at all. No need for aftermarket parts or files!

I have carried a 26 for about 4 years now (gen 3). No problems, no erratic ejections either.
