Had a Commander, pre series 80, satin nickel finish.

Didn't like the short trigger.

Didn't like the arched mainspring.

Didn't like the lack of beaver tail grip safety.

Didn't like the (admittedly crisp) heavy trigger.

Now if it wasn't satin nickel I could change out parts at will.

Looked into getting it stripped and built to my liking, not cost effective plus it would ruin a very clean example of that model. It was a low round count gun and it worked.

So I sold it to a buddy who heard I listed it. Good by.

I decided to go out and buy the gun I wanted the Colt to be. I bought a Commander size Rock River Arms.

Well since it is Sunday and you spoke ill of Colt, a mortal sin......Say three "Hail Mary's" go forward and sin no more...;)

I know it's too late, but why didn't you
put in a long trigger of your choice
replace with a flat MSH in stainless (would have been a very good match)
Add a Wilson drop in beavertail (again, stainless would have been a match)
Had a trigger job done on it
carry and shoot the heck out of it

BTW, congrats on the new replacement, looks nice.

After shooting the Colt I realized I really liked the way my Springfield felt, the checkering, safety, the sights and all the other stuff mentioned.

I just couldn't bring myself to modify what was otherwise a dependable and nice looking gun.

My buddy will give it a good home and appreciate its Coltness whereas I am more utilitarian about my guns :D

Here is the Colt,

Range Report on the RRA

Three hundred and fifty rounds later......

Fit and finish- The pic doesn't do it justice, a very beautiful blue pistol with the feeling of mechanical precision I have never felt in a handgun. Now I know the allure of the custom builds, and this is a production gun. Let me state flat out I don't like having to use a bushing wrench. I realize some of the 50yard accuracy is supposed to come from this tight fit but I don't like it.

Accuracy - My groups at 25 yards were better with this gun than with my Springfield TRP right away. In spite of the shorter sight radius on the RRA the superior and lighter trigger allowed me to be more consistent.

Function- Using 8 round Wilson magazines(forgive me Tuner:D ) I experienced zero feeding, extraction or ejection problems. This is particularly satisfying, I was concerned because the gun is so tight, silly tight.

Overall I am happy with this trade up from the Colt. The materials and workmanship are better than anything I have ever owned. I shot practical pistol for a few hours on Saturday and did well, transitioned from the full sized TRP to the RRA with few issues. Had to move my also new ITWB holster forward some, couldn't get a consistent grip on the draw and even had such a low hold once the grip safety didn't disengage:eek: .

You Colt guys don't worry. My friend who bought the Commander is going to leave it mostly unmolested and shoot it. I am happy knowing it is going to a good home where it will be appreciated. That is better than sitting in my safe being ignored.

Thank you

From people like me who like and buy used Colt pistols, to people like you who don't like, and sell, Colt pistols, Thank You:D
