Soldier shoots self with own weapon

I happened upon an account recently of a US soldier I have some distant connection to being killed in Kuwait in 2002. I thought hmmm, there was no fighting. I dug further and found a story that he had shot himself with his own weapon and an investigation is underway.

So those of you who have been there tell me: I can see where you could screw up and shoot yourself with your own rifle, in the foot or leg. It seems a stretch that you could inflict a fatal wound. Would you tend to think that something like this was more likely to be suicide? What kind of scenario could create an accident like that?

if it was not Suicide, i would say he shot and riped his own Femoral artery apart.
