I filled a rifle buffer with tungsten and it only weighed 9.5 ounces with 6 tungsten weights. That actually worked pretty good but I wanted to find the limit for too much weight on a rifle with silencer.
I found "heavy rifle buffers dot com". Thought it was a neat idea. But on the website I couldn't tell if they were solid or if they had weights and rubber disks in them. Searched around for a while couldn't find anything. Then it turns out my AR10 guru uses one and confirmed it's solid.
If it was bored out and full of weights it would be worth the $120 or so.
I had a solid piece of 304 stainless about the right diameter to make a buffer so I took an aluminum one and quickly copied it. Bored out the back just enough to sink a bumper make it slightly under sized so I could hammer in a bumper, no roll pin, probably need a torch to melt it out.
It's ridiculously heavy, weighs about 11.6 ounces almost causes my suppressed rifle to short stroke with hot 69gr ammo loaded with 26gr Leverevolution powder. It locks the bolt back no problem.
Seems to run great otherwise.
