Some Advice, Please: Para, Ruger, or SA for 1911

My Kimber Custom II is the best handgun I have ever owned. Never malfunctioned, I use Wilson 47D magazines.

I have a commemorative Para that I carry occasionally. It runs well with factory ammo, is finicky about my reloads. The ambidextrous safety kept wiggling apart, I had the factory r3repla it with a standard one. I am in a couple of Para clubs, I can get parts and advice.

I just bought a RIA 9mm and it is fantastic, after replacing and tuning the extractor. If I had to walk in and buy a new .45 1911 to carry out of the box, I would look hard at Ruger, RIA, and an STI Spartan.

I should have listened....I should have listened....I should have listened....to ya'all.

I went with the Para 'cause it was cheap. It was, Just didn't feel "right." Not like my S&W 4566 or Sig 245. Maybe because it's a commander size in aluminum and steel; maybe 'cause it's a smaller 1911 and I haven't shot one of those in years and years, or maybe I was expecting too much, but it's just not the gun for me.

So now it's back to the LGS (they will give me a credit and I can pick something better) and we'll see.

If they have a nice Smith compact in .45 I'll do it (4513 or 457). Otherwise it'll be the best $600 1911 in the case.

It's done. They had a Taurus in the case...price was right, gun looked good, trigger was just fine and it was a swap with no cost to me. As this is strictly a range toy, and so I can say (mostly to myself) "I got a 1911," I don't mind a lesser brand, as long as it works ok. I'm not betting my life on it (like I do with my Sigs, Walthers, and S&Ws) and if there is a problem with it, I can always take it back to the LGS....it's a real good store in Bothell, WA: DJ's.

I agree but he's a Red coat!
Was a Redcoat...I "retired" from King George III's Royal Artillery when we moved from the East Coast to the Pacific Northwest.

There is no active Rev War (or War of 1812) reenacting or groups out here....so when we finally sold our house and moved I also sold all my British Kit.

The big living history thing out here is what we used to call the "Fur Trade." Mountain man stuff. As well as Silly War (errr, Civil War). But the thought of starting over and accumulating all the proper gear to do that way is more than I want to tackle.
