Hello everybody,
I'm living in southern CT, looking to buy an AR. The AWB here is pretty extensive (http://www.cga.ct.gov/2007/pub/Chap943.htm#Sec53-202a.htm). I went to the gunstore yesterday to see what they had in stock and i saw plenty of guns with two "evil" features on them, such as pistol grip+flash hider, which confused me because on the website posted above it says "at least two" of the features will qualify any semiauto as an assault rifle. Does "at least two" mean i can have a gun with a fixed stock and a flash supressor? or does it mean i can have only one? Also, does a flash "hider" count as a flash supressor? whats the difference between the two?

As you can see i'm very confused

Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks,
DS

You might have been looking at a compensator, not a flash hider.

A comp will have a near bore diameter hole in the muzzle.

A flash hider will have a dime - nickle size muzzle hole completely open.

BTW: I'm thinking if the gun store is selling "plenty" of them, they must be legal!

I'm not from CT, but if two or more, crosses the line into evilness, then I think you can only have one. No difference between a flash suppressor and hider, but a sound suppressor is its own animal.

Did you ask the dealer about the configuration?
Are "assault rifles" forbidden, regulated, taxed, what?

That amount of infringement sucks.

If in fact they had 2+ features, they could have been prebans. Detachable mag semi-autos made before 9/13/94 can be sold/kept with as many features as you want- except Colt AR-15 and Sporter marked rifles whcih require a certificate of possession and generally can't be transferred.

More likely, the muzzle devices you saw were permenantly attached comps.

Its 2 or more illegal, however don't confuse a compensator for a flash suppressor, my Stag AR has a Yankee Hill Compensator on it, looks better then a blank barrel IMO.

If you look around you can find some pre ban's floating around too, in Newington Gun Exchange they currently have a M4 style (16 inch barrel) preban with a decent paint job, flash suppressor, pistol grip, collapsing stock, and bayonet lug. 1500$. Cant remember the company though since I didn't look at it overly long. So sometimes you MAY be seeing a preban they have in.

Also, sometimes they'll stock M4 styles with pinned stocks, cant use the collapsing stock, but looks better on the 16inch barrel models.
