Some good news for a change!

I went to renew my PA ccw yesterday. I was told to fill out the app and provide 2 references. Very pleasent people as I was filling in the lines and I stated that having references was not part of the state requirements(I was providing them anyway). Secretary said I was right but that the county wanted them and if I was from out of state they would not be required. Thats OK. I went to pay and she said $20 for 5 years and I replied its more than that! She said the price had gone DOWN since I was last in!! I signed the app and before I sat down to wait she handed me my license... total time 10minutes. She said if I had picked up the app yesterday and filled it out I would have been done sooner..

Pennsylvania is going through a prossess of standardizing the Concealed Pistol Licences across all counties. Some sheriffs were requiring references, some were not, and the look and price of the actual card were all diffferent from county to county. At one point, some counties were charging $20 for a laminated paper license, and offering a printed plastic one that looks more official for an additional $18.

Now all licenses are the laminated paper kind, from what I've read on the PAFOA forum, and more closely resemble each-other across county lines, as well as being uniform in price. Some counties persist in requiring references, though, and some take 30 - 45 days to process the license.

Mine is laminated and feels like a credit card. The old one had worn off the numbers. Did not know that others in pa had to wait...are you talking Philly?...that doesnt count! lol
