I know I'm preaching to the choir on this, but I thought I would share it so that some of you may use it as "ammunition" (no pun intended) against the anti-self defense people. Today, as the result of the tragedy in VA. I have started to consider writing the Dean of Students for the University of North Texas (where I currently am a student) and aske that they change their vague Student Code of Conduct to allow those with valid Texas CHL's to carry on campus for self protection.
So I went to the Texas DPS website and looked up the conviction rates for CHL holders. I didn't want to retype the entire excel page that I made. But you can download it if you want.
But, the fact of the matter is of the 34,791 convictions in TX during the 2005 fiscal year, only 129 of those were CHL holders. That equates to CHL holders counting for 0.37079% of those offenses. And those aren't just offenses involving firearms. Those are all offenses including things such as domestic violence and indecent exposure. Just FYI the most common offense for which CHL holders were convicted was unlawfully carrying a weapon.
