I would forget about making an original style handle to trip over and move...unless you just like more junk :) just use the new bent one- unless it turns out that the new style does not work. There is not real collectability to these that will be hurt by the newer handle whether its straight or bent.

I know but it's the OCD in me that wants it original and better. I still plan on making an original handle out of 9/16" cold rolled bar stock and doing a half round end and 1/2"-20 threads on the other

I don't know if you researched the configuration of the original handle or not, but I couldn't find anything in the thread that indicated that you had those specs. AFAIK my handle is original. Sorry for the size of the pictures, but I am challenged with photobucket. BTW the diameter of the handle is 5/8". Also, even though it doesn't look like it, the tape is pretty close to matching the end of the handle by the threads. Note the knurling on the last 2 inches or so of the business end. It might be hard to see, but the first 1/4" or so is coarser than the last 1 1/2". The handle is about 12 1/4" end to end.

I can make that!

Time to fire up the lathe at work!

Thank you for posting. I had yet to see an original handle, this helps tremendously!

I finished the Lyman Spartan tonight. I decided to blue all of the small parts. I also painted the press over the original wrinkle finish. I used Rust Oleum Hammered in dark grey. Then took the shine off with a coat of Rust Oleum clear satin.

My neighbor tried to buy it from me tonight :)

Do you have the red plastic primer catcher that goes with the lyman spartan? I purchased my spartan new in 1976 for $22. Only metallic press I have I load 4 pistol calibers and 6 rifle calibers on it never needed anything else!

Since my mentors are on the subject of old presses, help in I.D.ing an "old" Pacific press. One side sez PACIFIC & the other side sez PATENT 1933940. Dark green in color. Any idea of its age? BTW, Nice too see this old stuff, restored or not, in use or not!

I finished painting the Pacific today. I guess the color is close, my workshop is very bright so it looks lighter in the pic. I gave it two coats of clear satin to dull it down some.

Now to put it together with the new shell holder ram and home made handle. After that its getting mounted to a LEE Bench Plate, which will get a 2"x4" 3/16" boxed steel riser and plate. I have thought about tilting the mounting plate forward so that the ram will be vertical. I have seen it done before and I hear it works better for sizing rifle brass. Thoughts?
I now see that yours has the same markings as mine. Any idea when it was made? Just curious.
