I have an AA target version on the way, but a couple of questions remain:

1 - While AA, a CA-based company, cannot manufacture 11+ round mags, does anyone else do so? It seems like it wouldn't take a whole lot of work to turn a standard mag into a 20 or so round .22 double stack, but hey I'm no machinist and I can't seem to find one available, so probably harder than I think. Any ideas?

2 - Their FAQ states high velocity ammo is much preferred, and they do not like Fed. or PMC. However I can't see a specific velocity level that is required. I have no other .22 so ne experience here, but I bought some CCI Mini0Mags and Remington Hi-Velocity "golden bullets" per their recommendation. However I could only find 36gr ammo in these brands, and the faqs imply strongly that 40gr is available. Ami I missing this? Any ammo recommendations from actual users?

Thanks all

No experience at all, but I read this thread recently about the AA target kit on another forum, lots of good info:

Is your kit for the 1911? Let us know how it works for you...I've been interested in these for awhile, but rarely hear of anyone's firsthand experience.

Making or converting a magazine is difficult. However, other magazines (such as the Kimber) will work in the AA. I expect my early Ciener 15-rounder would work just fine.

This is an indication of marginal reliability. And that seems confirmed by the reports I've read. Don't let that scare you, just but several different kinds of ammo, and stick with what it likes best -- and clean it regularly.

1. .22 LR is a rimmed case with lead bullet. High-cap magazines for it are not a trivial excercise. Look at some of the 25 shot Ruger mags to see what it takes.

2. They recommend high velocity .22s to kick back the slide. Even in aluminum, a 1911 slide is a lot for a .22 to cycle. The only 36 grain .22s I know of are hollowpoints. For some reason common at Walmart. They ought to do ok, at least they work in my Colt Ace and CZ Kadet.

Thanks all - makes sense. I may have to look for some new online venues for more .22lr choices, but we'll see what these do first.
