In the USA in 2001 there were a total of 2,989,022 manufactured.

In the USA in 2011 there were a total of 6,398,854 manufactured.

That equates to a stunning 114% increase in a decade. Talk about unintended consequences of gun control...

And just think that doesn't even include all those guns manufactured outside the USA. Like most of the guns I own. :)

I wonder how many actually stayed in the USA. Do Ruger and S&W distribute a lot worldwide?

I'd like to crunch the numbers over the last decade year over year. Could there be like 50 million guns in the hands of private owners across the USA? That's enough to outfit a couple of armies, if you stingy dudes would share. :neener:

The increase in sales is not the result of reactions to gun control; It is the result of people having lost faith in government (and rightfully so)

-People do not, and should not, entrust the governement with their protection as they did 20 years ago

-People do not, and should not, trust the government in general as they did 20 years ago

Sure, some of the sales are a preemptive action hedging against possible future bans. But by and large, it is people taking a pro-active stance to protect themselves and their families. The bubble has burst. Numerous events over the last couple of decades have proved to the people that not only will their government not protect them, but that the things the government does often make the world we live in more dangerous. The two best examples are Katrina and operation Fast & Furious.

As I understand it...the guns Glock produces in the US cannot be sold in the US...some sorta import thing...I forget exactly how it works.

You'll notice the ones sold here say "Made in Austria"...the ones made in Georgia are all exported.

I think the way it works is this...For the guns sold here the slides and barrels are made in Austria and shipped here then assembled with frames made here. Maybe that would include them in the numbers....since in the US the frame is considered "the gun".

I see lots of rugers in the hands of police around the world. Mini-14's and AC-556 mostly. I doubt it even begins to offset just the russian manufacture we import. I see lots of saigas, and even though they are not new production Milsurps from around the world keep coming in.

Pretty much backwards, and Glock does not manufacture the guns stateside. If they did, you'd be able to get a model 25 or 28 .380 ACP.

There is a point system for imports, and caliber is part of it.

The reference shows both the manufacturing and export numbers. By far the most stay in the USA.

Would those numbers leave out Saigas, Mosin-Nagants, Benelli shotguns, Stoegers, Uberti revolvers, Walther pistols, some Springfield Armory pistols, at least some Glocks? (My Walther p22 says made in Germany, my Springfield Champion says made in Brazil, my Glock 32 says made in Austria.)

More like 50 million gun owners and 350 million guns in this country - now, if we could get everyone to vote, get involved and be politically active like the antis are against us, we could never lose......

Other than cars and gasoline, is there another American made product generating that much revenue?

Glock's production for the USA, in the USA, is included in these numbers. What else?
In my collection, I have a German Walther, an Italian Beretta, a Romanian AK, two Russian Mosins, and a Romanian PSL. That's most of my collection made outside of the USA.
