Made a stop at favorite pawn/gun shop today, the owner does not normally take in anything that is related to black powder unless he thinks I will want it. Today went in and there was a (Remington) Spanish 43 Rolling Block. It has had the extractor broken or ground off but already found parts for it and BP ammo ($76.00 for 20 rds Ouch), Stock is rough but all hardware is there and it has potential. Just got to get him down on his price a few dollars

Yeahhhh...you definitely don't need it.

But DO please make a Thread showing the restoration/repair work and whatever else you are going to do, and the Range Report once she is out for a romp!!

Souns like fun!

Conveniently I dropped hint to my wife that tomorrow we need to go out and just look around. Already did searching and Track of the Wolf has the brass for these and everything else is readily available. This should get me thru a few months of upcoming winter....

I did'nt need My Rolling Block either. But I have one Smithed byWilliam[Bill] Morrison in Bangor Main[Since moved].This Smith is still working on guns at 87yrs of age,[hard of hearing],and this 45-70 is one fine shooter/sporter with a Win Highwall [heavy] and is min dimension chambered. To anyone who knows this man,I love this gun and wonder how it got to the west coast.

You don't need it but you could buy it for me because I need it. I would settle for pictures
of it after you buy it but you really don't need it.

Got looking at one gun cabinet and there is an empty slot there. And over the fireplace is an empty mount. Plus just picked up new tools for my work shop and with my eyesight not what is was (I can still spot a blond at 1000 yrds) will have my son do all machine work. Still only thing is $76.00 for 20 rounds will have to hold target right in front of the barrel just be sure I'm on paper. Still got a trick or two that if necessary I can lay on the wife and who knows she might even buy me something else also..

Once you get some empty Brass for it, re-loading those is a breeze, and loads of fun too...and offers lots of variety in Loadings even with Black Powder.

Get some Bullet Moulds, Lead, some basic Dies for the re-size, de-prime and Crimp, and you will never look back.

I'll tell you what you don't need -

Expensive Mail Order Postage and so on on top of it, Factory Ammunition!!!

Lol...

One thing that I have learned over the years and still have to re-learn again and again. IF IT'S THERE and you really want it buy it then... Went back today with cash in my grubby hand to find out it was gone. Think I or WE in general will ever learn that lesson

With Walkers210 on that one. Years ago found a Sharps 50/90 for $700 at my favorite gun shop, next day it was gone.

Here is my .43 Spanish made by A. Francotte of Belgium for Uruaguay (Republica Oriental), serial # 114, that my dad bought for me at a gun shop in Culver City, CA in the early '60's, out of a barrel for $15.00.
Man, I miss those days!

Don't remember the year, but it was way way back when I was kid. A 5 and dime store in Birmingham, Al had a basement and when my mother was shopping myself and older sister would wander. They had racks and racks of captured Mauser bolt action rifles there and if memories serves they were in the $30. dollar range, but at that time the $30 dollars was way out of my reach.

just a hint of caution. While 90 percent of the 43 Spanish rifles are for the 11.15 mm bullet, (.439) there are three other cartridges also referred to as the 43 Spanish. A carbine round taking a .433 bullet, a longer one with .433 BULLET AND THE 43 Reformado which takes a .454 bullet. The Reformado case has no bottle neck, it is bell shaped instead and normally the bullets were brass jacketed.

Planetmobius, I absolutely needed it or at least another one to help fill the cabinet. Went back the next day to get that one but it was gone before I got there. Got to keep extra cash hidden in the wallet just for things like this.

Really would like to have brought that Rolling Block home but it will work out somewhere down the line. What I am looking for more than anything else is a SXS coach gun with big rabbit ears sticking up.
