Sometimes this BP stuff is fun.

A few months ago I purchased a Pedersoli 1777 Charleville musket.
Since then I've been playing around with it and enjoying the heck out of it using paper cartridges.
One problem has been after about 6 or 8 shots the bore gets caked up and requires wet swabbing to keep running.
So I hit on the bright idea of using some of my C&B BP lube in the musket.
I'm using the lube recipe from the tacked thread at the top of the forum.
I tried several different methods of melting and pouring lube "buttons" and proceeded to make a huge mess with unsatisfactory results.
A few days ago I had left the tupperware container I keep the lube cakes stored in out in the car. Car got typical warm in the sun. When I retrieved the lube cakes they were putty soft from the heat.
DING! Idea. I took the cakes and started rolling them with my hands into long thin strings. Then using an Exacto Knife I cut the strings into button sized chunks. A few turns between the fingers and presto! Lube buttons.
I was sitting at my desk making these when the 6yr old grand daughter was over visiting. She wanted a whack at it so here we went, rolling wax buttons like play dough! HA! Mom wasn't too happy about waxy fingers but they wash up fine.

Keep it up. Last year my granddaughter turned 8. She came up to me and asked, "Papa will you please take me hunting with you?"

That's all the reward you will ever need for taking time with them.

PS: add a little more wax and the buttons will be firmer. I use an empty .45 auto case with the primer removed as a 'cookie cutter' for my .45/.50 cal. guns.

Patzo', find a rifle case that has a tapered body where part of the body, hopefully closer to the shoulder, is the right internal size. Cut off at that line and cut away the head so it is tapered to a more open size towards the top. Then as you cookie cut your pills they just lift up in the tube and come out the top without being further formed in any way. That'll stop them from sticking together badly.

Rolling the wax worm by hand sounds like more fun though...... :D
