Would like to get a Hornady unit to clean brass and clean the slide assembly on my XDM 9 mm. I worry about putting the whole slide (firing pin corrosion) in the solution since mostly water. Any issue from anyone with experience?
i put mine in and used with the hornady parts cleaner solution. i then rinse it in hot water/shake the crap out of it to get the water out/ then into the oven at 150 for a while to dry it/ oil and done. now i dont do this everytime i shoot my xd40 but every so often buy i put the recoil and barrel in there more.
I have an ultra sonic cleaner, but the small transducer area and beaming of high frequency causes the area to be cleaned to be small.
But I am not sorry I bought it. It will do a great job of cleaning 6 or 7 cartridges at a time.
It does a great job of cleaning Copper solvent out of bronze brushes and cleaning battery ooze from batter contacts.
The Walnut vibrating cleaner does not do much for the inside of necks.
But the Thumbler Tumber with stainless steel media does get brass clean.
I've used my Ultrasonic Cleaner to to clean my gun parts in the past. But I used Hopper's #9 as the cleaning medium. There is nothing wrong about using a water based cleaner. You just need to dry the parts real good and re-oil them again to prevent corrosion. If you have compressed air, its good to clean/blast h20 out of hard to clean areas. Another way is dunk it in light oil or alcohol to displace the water.
I quit using mine because it took longer to setup than to actually clean the gun.
