I've had an AK 74 Romy WASR , and hated it. The gun jammed, and literally bound up, and had to be sent back to the factory for repair. The front sight was canted. It was a POS.

I asked around about the Bulgy and was given a good response. I've decided to give the AK platform a second chance, and spend a bit more money so I might get a better example. The model I ordered was a Bulgarian SSR 85 AK 47 from AIM. I'll post a report once I pick it up and get a chance to get to the range.

I'm enjoying all of these "I got an AK" posts.

Reminds me of when I got my AK.. What a great day that was =)

I had a similar experiance with a WASR 7.62x39mm. It was reliable but the mag wobbled around...no muzzle brake (the ban years) crappy thumbhole stock that jabbed me right in the cheak bone with every shot...hated it! I now have a Romey G built rifle from Lancaster Arms and am SOOOOO HAPPY with it! I'm in love with my AK now!

WASR's are a bit like a lottery ticket in that regard. Better odds but still. A good one is fine but you can end up with a real loser. I hear those SSR rifles have welded on muzzle devices and I'm not sure whether or not there's threads under there so if that's important to you you might want to clarify that point.

I would buy only a wasr I could inspect myself. Like mine. It shoots great and was 319 $

Ive bought no less than 6 WASRs over the internet in the last year.

All were fine and functioned perfectly.

Like alot of things, I believe you hear about more bad ones because overall, there are more of them out there then any other AK.

Just my thoughts.

The bulgarian AK are very good, but there is something about my Romanian ak that i just love, BTW good choice, AIM is a very good place to buy.

Do any of you guys by any chance know of a website where I can buy a Romanian AK47? A friend of mine picked one up here locally for $300, but the shop closed down. Is there a site that has them for around that price? thanks so much for the help guys

for future references, if you have an ak that is giving you issues call Jim Fuller at Rifle Dynamics, and he will build you an ak like you wouldn't believe. he does wasr reworks too. i have seen a few of his ak's first hand and they are awesome.

I called Jim today but everything he has is out of my price range! why can't I find a $300 AK anywhere?! Even if its relatively close in price! :banghead:

Hate to say it but ALL THE $300 AKs are gone for good !!!

I was at two larger local gun shops today ---- they had LOTS of Ak type guns but none of them were less then $450 --- and the standard wood SKSs were all over $300,
