Right = Not so

Found him in a box of Winchester 30-30 CXP2 150gr. Not sure I want to try and shoot it either.
Out of a box of 20, one of these kids is not like the other :p

Looks like one case got by the final "trim to length" step when they made it.

Give Winchester a call with the box flap lot# and get some free ammo!

It shouldn't chamber & fire, but pressure would be through the roof if it did.

Ive actually never even heard of a case getting past the final trim, kinda odd, cool but odd.

Years back (pre 1993, been a while) I had a .30 Carbine round that would not chamber, and the case looked like it had not been trimmed either. That got me into the habit of visually inspecting each round as I loaded the magazines.

ADDED:[sarcasm] that's a lot of crimp on that case on the right. Personally I prefer to crimp only the width of the channelure in the bullet.[/sarcasm]

Boy winny has been turning out some real junk ammo lately, rifle and pistol

Since about 1895 by my reckoning.

Of all the US manufacturers of ammo I'd rate Winchester as being the worst. No anti-flash in the SD pistol ammo (like a strobe light in your face at night), bullets loaded backwards, unburned powder/filler spewed everywhere.

I'd rather shoot Russki steel case.

Found a 40S&W cartridge at the police range on the ground, that had the bullet seated backwards! Bad part was, it was on the firing line, after the officer tried to fire it!! He missed it while loading his mag:eek:

Thought I would give it a test to see if it would cycle and you are correct, Sir. Failure to chamber. Levers in most of the way save the final quarter of an inch or so.

Good thing.
If it did chamber, and you fired it?

The extra case neck length would be jammed past the chamber shoulder and into the rifling.

That would leave no place for the case neck & crimp to expand and release the bullet.

As I said before, pressure would likely be off the charts.

I have a Winchester white box 45 Auto round with the primer seated backwards. I don't know why I saved it. I still like their ammo better than Remington.

They won't give you free anything. they will do to you what they did to me, send out a call tag to ship it back, then lose it and say "what bad round?"

I have seen a few bad rounds from Remington lately (Primer seated sideways and bullets seated backwards)

The importer here in Australia for Remington when called about it (both times) said oh yeh, dont shot it you better send it back so we can take a look at it.

That's what happened here as well and both times the guys who got the dud rounds paid to have them shipped back. You would think they would just give them at least a box for there troubles but no apparently giving away a box of ammo would send this overpriced importer broke. It makes you wonder how much Remington gave the importer for the dud ammo? Thats why I wont buy anything from that importer.

That's why we still have the box and pictures
Dont count on that being any insurance as it's your word against their's and theirs will be (he could have made that up at home with a reloading press and puller). Ask the sales rep in your area to come and get it from you face to face (with free ammo in hand and do a swap). It's not anything to take lightly that could have blown up your gun while you were holding it.

Looks like the wrong case got sent through the production line, maybe a .38-55 or .30-40 got sized and loaded as a .30-30.

I guess QC has gotten bad. Before I started loading my own I had a weatherby 270 win that I used the winchester power point in and never had anything but good results.

Well Olin is moving production from Southern Illinois to Alabama. I wouldn't be overly surprised if somebody isn't happy about losing their job and throwing the proverbial wrench in the works as a parting shot.

The one on the right isn't Jewish. :D

And... yet another reason to avoid all Winchester ammo and reloading products until they get their stuff together.
