I'd like to pick up several thousand 223 bullets for my newly acquired M&P sport AR. Who has a quality/accurate bullet a decent price? Bullets will be primarily used for target shooting. Thanks..

The 6000 pack of Hornady 55 gr FMJ BT are about the best deal going. While not a match grade bullet (more or less an M193 projectile), the are pretty good and will generally shoot better than M193/M855. Wideners used to have the best deal on them, though I believe my Brownells dealer price beats that now. The flat base soft point bulk pack is another option. In theory they should be more accurate due to not being an open base bullet. I find the FMJBT to be easier to load on a progressive press due to the boat tail.

The only thing I consider a better value are Nosler blems (true match grade bullets). Not too long ago, the 52 gr custom competition could be had for $8ish per 100. Prices have gone up, and availability down. :(

Work up the load before you buy anything in bulk. Then order whatever bullet shoots best through your local shop. They can order anything you want in any quantity you want. Just be prepared to pay up front.
"...a decent price..." That'd be something only you can define. $574.08 plus shipping, .etc for that 6,000 atblis mentions.

Anyone using any of the RMR bullets?? The 55 grain boat tails have my attention!

Yes, and they help support THR, and they offer a 5% discount for THR members.

The bullets are good for range use, and will bust clays at 100 yards every time. They are on par with the other bulk FMJs. The only "cheap" bullets I have used that are more accurate are the Dogtowns. But I need my scoped bolt action to see much benefit.

I would buy and load some assorted bullets of various weights. What is your rifles barrel twist? Find a good load that delivers the accuracy you want and then worry about bulk.

I just took advantage of a sale at Midway of 50 Grain Dog Town bullets. These 50 grain flat base hollow points shoot great in my bolt gun with a 1:12 twist. That is what I got them for. They do not shoot well at all in my 1:7 twist AR rifles. I would have been real unhappy had I pulled the trigger on a few thousand bullets that don't shoot well in a rifle I bought them for. Find what works for you and then worry about a thousand bullets or more in bulk.

While I can't attest to the accuracy, Midway is having a sale on blemished or factory seconds. What they have can be viewed here. I can say that in the past many members have taken advantage of these good deals and come away very pleased. Hopefully anyone who has bought on these deals will comment. Most who bought them even commented they could not find a blemish or fault.

If by "bulk" you mean >100 bullets per box, you may fine "accuracy" and "bulk" to be mutually exclusive.

My current favorite plinking .223 bullet is RMR's 55 grain FMJ in lots of 1,000. They're plenty accurate for my needs but are by no means match grade ... not even close.

When I could still get them, Midway's 55 grain cup and core bullets made by Barnes was both accurate and cheap in lots of 500. I think 500.

Really accurate results for me has always come with the more "premium" bullets: Nosler, Barnes, Hornady and etc..

Target shooting? I concur with oldpapps, dogtown bullets are a bargain, I've used a lot of the HP's in my bolt gun and they're remarkably accurate: no-frills, thin-jacketed flat based design is predictable and easy to "tune".

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.. I have a nice variety of hornady and sierra bullets to try to work up loads on. I have a 22-250 which shoots just about everything good and I have a nice pile of bullets for it.

I think I'm going to buy some of the RMR 55 grain boat tail bullets for testing. I noticed while loading some Berger 52 grain target flat base bullets that I really "want" a boat tail bullet for ease of grabbing from box and seating in case. I'm not going to be terribly anal about accuracy with this gun like I am with some of my bench rifles. How good can one shoot off-hand anyways?? I'm sure these bullets will work just fine. I may just buy some Dogtown too, just because its too good of a deal to pass up! :)

You used three words that don't work together when buying bullets. You can only get two, not three.

You can only find two of them with consistency and that's accuracy and quality but almost always never in conjunction with "good price".

Of all the bulk bullets out there probably the best all around are the Hornady's.
