Source for CZ parts? Experience buying?

So, this is not your usual "where can I get springs/small parts" sort of question. I have had an SP01 for several years and love it. I recently picked up a P01 to have as a slightly smaller/lighter companion to the SP01, and love it also.

As many will know, a lot of CZ major assemblies are interchangeable. For fun, I stuck the SP01 top end on the P01 frame. It ran flawlessly and was pretty smooth to shoot.

I kinda want to pick up a spare SP01, or regular CZ75 complete top end to have as a spare for the P01. I'm partly asking where might be a good place to pick one up - I've been trolling Gunbroker/Armslist but this doesn't seem to be something that shows up used. I assume CZ-USA will sell me one, but what about CZ Custom or CGW? And finally, does anyone have experience buying a major assembly like this from any of the above (or anywhere else) and how did the purchase go?

Only one place has worked on any of my CZ pistols, and that's Cajun Gun Works. Call them first.

The CZ Custom shop and Cajun Gun Works are about the only places that offer much that isn't available on the CZ website. Both firms have had some small parts made (by non-CZ sources) to their specs. I've not found much available elsewhere. CZ has always been hesitant to sell bigger parts and assemblies, such as slides -- i've never heard of them doing it. CZ does it differently than Tanfoglio when it comes to CZ-pattern guns and parts -- whole slides assemblies are sold by EAA in the U.S. for their large-frame WITNESS weapons, as "conversion kits." There are also after-market suppliers for Tanfoglio guns offering a wide array of parts.. Brownells once carried a lot of Tanfoglio/Witness parts, but I haven't checked them for Witness parts in the last couple of years.

Sadly, the parts kits and upgrades for the OTHER versions of the CZ design seldom work with a CZ -- the basic CZ and the later "copies" (unless you happen upon a true clone) -- are quite different. Little things like PIN diameters for triggers and hammers are different, and how the hammer springs fit and work, or how the firing pin block works, can be quite different.

David Milam, at Cajun Gun Works is a class guy. I've heard no complaints about the CZ Custom Shop, either. Both do quality work, but Cajun Gun Works will help/guide you if you get the parts from CGW, so you may be able to do it yourself, which can mean you'll be able to spend fewer dollars.

Ya the cheapest way to accomplish this would be to find a complete surplus gun and than sell the frame. Would have to be a B model tho if you want to keep the firing pin lifter in your current frame.
