Well - I am about loaded out for our trip to South Dakota to shoot Prairie Dogs. I bought a new pop up trailer, the one with off road tires and suspension with a big deck to the front to load a Quad. It has A/C, shower and potty. Kithcen area and bunks on each end for me and Princess.

I will try to keep track of my percentages, longest shots etc. and give a report later. My frind says the grass is real high this year so we will see what that's like.

Retired April 30th and this should be a three week trip all through the central west including Yellowstone and the Tetons.

Then back home to regroup for some time up on the Mogollon Rim country of Arizona in July.

Be sure and stop in at the Museum of the Plains Indian in Grand Teton NP. Lots of interesting stuff in Jellystone NP.

If you get a chance, the Museum of the Mountain Man at Cody, Wyoming, is worth the visit. They bought that Jim Bridger rifle from me. :)

Find a CD of Ian Tyson's "Cowboyography" for mood music for the jaunt. :D

what is your route thru s.d.?

grass isn't very high yet, and dog towns generally have very short or no grass, so you should be in good shape.

I was in Cody five years ago and took in that museum and the Buffalo Bill Cody one as well. I am going through Red Lodge Mt and over the top and into the Park that way.

Going into SD up through N. Platte Ne - Valentine - Mission- WhiteRiver- Murdo - turn left on I-90 to mp 171 and then South a ways. Be our 2nd year at this place.

well, your route isn't coming by my place. however, on your way back to i-90 to head to wyoming, take the northern highway thru the badlands (i.e. don't go all the way to interior). about a 35 - 45 minute drive plus stops for pics, etc.

have a good shoot, travel safe!

well i live in South Dakota and i know this is a little late but you timed it perfect because the dogs just had dumb little rat babies and you can shoot them all day long! yesterday me and the father in law shot at least 150 a piece in 2 hours. They are thicker than ever this year!

Yup - I just got back from an SD pdog hunt myself and boy, the pups are indeed out in force. Not only are they dumb, but they present a special challenge because they are quite literally about the size of an adult hamster right now. You can really think you're having an off day, missing a bunch and getting embarrassed behind the trigger...until you walk up and see just how tiny your kills are. They make shooting at the adult pdogs feel like you're taking aim at the Hindenberg.
