Hi all, I live near a large military owned sand pit with plenty of large berms and safe shooting. I am planning a day of shooting fun in May, and I wanted to reach out and see if anyone on here is in the Southern Maine area and interested. Me and some friends do this every couple of years. Large tables setup, usualy some food, and lot's of guns. Everyone I know is safe, has gone through enough training to get thier CCW....

I am thinking 2nd weekend of May. I live in Hollis, but it is pretty easy to get to from 295. Once I work the details out I will post on here. I would also be interested if there were other informal shoots in Southern Maine.

Cool. You probably know the place then. Over on hardscrabble. I will post on here when I get the details worked out.

Same here, I love shooting. I usually make a day of it. I bring my bench, a few guns, a pot of coffee, cigar and my radio. I will be there for 3 or 4 hours somedays.

I'm waaaayyy up the coast from you guys, near Machias, but if I can I'd like to join in. Please forward the details as plans develop.

Im here in Bowdoinham (near Brunswick), might be interested. Just recently got the Black Rifle Disease, so I'm a pretty poor shot, and pretty shy about it!

which pit are you talking about? last that i heard the old army base was closed to people and if you where fond shooting you were arrested.

I work in Brunswick and I live right next to Brunswick. I know of the Navy base and some military owned property in this area, but I don't know of any sandpits that you can shoot at. How far away is this place from here?

That's not really saying much as it's as simple as being awake in class for 8hrs here in Maine. Sarcasim aside. I'm sure everyone behaves safely or it wouldn't keep occuring. I might be up for a southern ME shoot if he time is right.

Wow... sorry I have been away. I started a new job.

There is a TON of 4-wheeler trails. There are large areas, but I struggled to find a long range with a good berm. some great short 75 yard and less ranges.

I am still planning and investigating. My email address is [email protected] and unless it is Easter, or there is an IDPA meet I go to this range every weekend so feel free to drop me an email if you want to hook up. A few other shooters go on a regular basis too.

Any furhter thoughts or Plans on this?

Just wondering. I drove by the pit the other day. Looks like a good place to shoot. Maybe I'll just show up this weekend.

This has been harder then I anticipated. The pit is huge, and when you enter from the 117 side there is a good place to shoot right inside the gate.

Being Mothers day I will not be able to get over there. I normally bring three IDPA target stands and one cover device.

If you plan to go deeper into the pit though, you must CCW as this is a game preserve. The State Police and IFW have no problem with shooting at the site when you first enter, but to travel deeper you must have CCW or they could get you for hunting on a game preserve.

I walk my dogs there everyday, weather providing.
