Anyone have a good/bad experience flying Southwest Airlines? I'm leaving DFW headed to Denver this week. Like-Tomorrow!!!

I have flown with southwest for 10 years. Never had a problem. The staff is always very nice. I like to fly with them much more than US/American/etc.
i've always had a pretty good experience flying with them.
the trick is confirming your reservation early...like right at the 24hr mark...to get into boarding group "A". that way you board after the infirm, but before the families with children...that way the kids are seated behind you

Its one of the better airlines to fly imho. The boarding process is a bit different as you don't have an assigned seat. But I have always had good experiences with them.

This will be my first time with them carrying a side arm. Was just wondering.

Never an issue and I go back and forth from Love Feild to DIA atleast every other month.

i've been flying around teaching for the last couple of years and SW has been very good in how they handle it...you have to fill out a separate tag for each gun case...even out here in CA, i've had a check-in person balk when i mention i'm checking in a firearm, but a more experienced clerk will usually set them straight.
the only downside to flying with a firearm is you can't do curbside check-in of your luggage

Flew to Denver with one gun, came back with two. Not a single issue.

One bad experience, but not the airlines fault. Many years ago on a flight from San Antonio to Tampa we hit a massive thunderstorm. Turbulence was unbelievable. It was my wife's second flight ever - I'd been on hundreds, but this was the worst ever. I still have scars on my arm from her fingernails 
The turbulence was so bad I actually thought we were going to die. I'm talking about stuff and people thrown all over the cabin - had a girl fly into my head after my head bounced off the ceiling! Cuts & bruises were common... at least once we got through it all, the booze was free for everyone

Never have flown on SW with a firearm, but have used them on several occasions. SW is one of my favorite airlines. I will use them again, too. Good folks.
I can't remember anything about the Southwest flights I've taken in the last couple years as it regards to checking guns. This is a good thing.
Their staff is unusual for an airline, in that they actually seem to like their jobs and want to be there. Definitely will fly with them again.

Show up early! The airport is really busy right now and checking a gun will add to your 'check in time'. Last time I did it, they wanted me to hang around the check out counter for about 20 minutes. It will take longer to get through the whole process this time of year. Show up at least 2 hours early unless you don't mind being stressed out and running to the gate.

Never had an issue with them, my wife and I have used them often. No issues with firearms either.

Just recently I checked my Browning HP through in my checked luggage with Southwest. Not a problem.
1. Go to their website and print out their regulations on checking guns. This helps if the counter attendant is not up to speed on their own regs.
2. Hard case, must have metal hinge pins! Solid locks too.
3. Declare it as you check-in. They have you fill out a very short ID form that gets placed on top of the gun case to show the TSA folks that it was properly checked. TSA will open your suitcase and look as it will show up on their X-Ray.
4. Make double damn sure it is unloaded in that case.
This added maybe 5 minutes to my check-in time as I was prepared and had the regs in hand to show I was in compliance.

That's because they actually treat their employees like human beings. Southwest has a reputation in the airline industry as the company to get a job with.
We only use Southwest, the wife won't fly anyone else. The pilots crew are experienced and they know how to handle emergencies. And they pay a decent wage, that's the difference between them and some low priced airlines. You don't want a bus driver flying your airplane, nothing against bus drivers, wouldn't want the pilot driving the bus either.
