So with much anticipation I got out to the range friday to take my new SP-01 Tactical for a test drive, my very first CZ, and what can I say that you other CZ owners don't already know - this gun is great! Target in the pic is at about 10 yards - 18 rounds - so I'm pleased with the accuracy and the consistency to say the least!

Put 200 rounds through it - 100 S&B 115 gr - had one FTE towards the end - not a big deal - this ammo was loaded a little soft, extractions were light, so on a brand new, non-broken in pistol, 1 FTE was within normal limits IMO. Then I put 50 rounds of lawman 124 gr which were certainly stronger - had no issues, then 50 rounds of speer gold dots - 124 +p - again no issues.

The DA stroke is long, and with some practice it wasn't too bad. When you use the decocker the DA stroke is a little shorter so that was nice - easier to manage. The SA stroke was crisp and predictable, with a definite stop before the break, so it was easy to pull up the slack, then follow through predictably - didn't have any what I consider incidental discharges, where you are pulling up the slack and the trigger breaks before you expect it - a nice system.

recoil was negligible, esp compared to my sig 229 that I was shooting at the same time - it is pretty nice for a .40, but when swapping, the CZ felt as if it didn't have any recoil at all!

So my impressions are this is a great pistol, more accurate than I am, reliability was fine - not worried about the one FTE. It cracks me up when I see ads for new pistols - the SP-01 has near the slimness of an SR9 - I was surprised how slim it is, and the capacity of an XD(M) - So this is certainly a keeper - and might have to add another CZ or 2 to the stable in the coming months!

So thanks to all the CZ fans out there who love these things, I am now proud to say I have joined your ranks!

I also bought a CZ SP-1 decocker model recently. I'm well pleased also. This is my second CZ. My first is a P-01 I use for carry.

Odd, I’ve always found the S&B to be a bit hotter and functions flawlessly in my SP-01 Tactical. Mine fits like a glove, very comfortable. The size and great ergonomics makes it easy to be accurate with. I have a 75B in .40 S&W that’s been great and I can highly recommend it as a second CZ.

I have the same gun. I might add that it has the best cocking serrations on the slide of any gun. And a nice slide release. I was surprised how beautiful the machining was for a Czech gun. I guess I expected AK like machining. It's beautiful. Also those 19 round mags will fit any CZ. I shoot them in my Rami while at the range.
I use WWB ammo and have never had a failure, although it throws the casings weakly back at me. I hear the 124 gr. S&B works better as it is loaded a bit hotter and the CZ likes it.

I've shot quite a bit of S&B too - and these were S&B range safe - so I think that was the difference - because with the S&B the extractions were minimal - with the lawman and the gold dots they were flinging out the side. I've had similar experience with winchester winclean 115 gr in my wife's glock 19- so I think that what ever they use in that configuration of ammo causes it to be a tad weaker.

skwab,

Please keep the praise down. . . . . this is how we've kept the prices down for so long. People think - Czech junk. . . . this is good. . . . . means lower cost.

So, tell everyone the SP-01 is Czech junk. . . . I do. . ;) I have a junkie SP-01 and a junkie CZ-97.

New CZ-75 SP-01 owner here as well. 9mm recoil is nothing in this heavy pistol compared to my Glock 19. I'm way more accurate with it. The standard night sights are great.

Mine has the safety (not decocker) as I wanted to be familiar with this setup. However, I still don't carry with one in the chamber partly because I can't find a good holster for it. BTW, +1 on the great slide grip-serrations.

I really wanted to carry this in the winter but I can't find a good holster. The Fobus paddle that supposedly fits this pistol does not cover the ambi-safety on the right side and the pistol is too heavy to really carry comfortable even with a large belt I feel - Maybe it was intended more for thigh rigs or shoulder holsters? I dunno.

One thing I do to keep down weight is to use the standard CZ 75 16 round mags instead of the 18 round extended-base mags. They also prevent the gun from printing as bad as the mags extend an inch or two below the grip.

Thinking about a shoulder holster but I don't think those are great for concealing. Otherwise, maybe a traditional belt-threaded leather OWB would support the pistol better.

I have a Kadet Kit with threaded barrel and this is great suppressed - looks very cool on a full size pistol.

Enjoy.

Nice, long wait for the NFA paperwork for the suppressor? Been wanting to get one, don't knw if it's worth the hassle.
Eric makes a very nice IWB called the COMIII, probably would work well even with a big rig like that. :)
