Morning Fellas!... Its a beautiful new day, and I see we're still beatin that dead horse to death!...
Everyone involved with this 'posting' knows guns (a given)!!! If we took a survey and asked for THE best guns/mfgrs with a long history and reputation for QUALITY, RELIABILITY and DURABILITY.. we'd probably come up with the same names like SIG, H&K, Glock, maybe BERETTA, and a few US Co's... (I happen to include CZ in that list, but let's NOT fight this early in the morning) and you know what, if you go to THEIR Forums you'll always see a couple of guys 'bitchin' about problems and crappy-guns THEY bought (and probably rightfully so)! Anything made by man and his machines, can have problems... BUT the thing I look for is 'probabilities and percentages'! If I make 5,000 guns and 3 or 4 guys have problems, I fix 'em, and know we have no problems! If I make 5,000 guns and 3 or 4 THOUSAND guns continually have problems, WE HAVE PROBLEMS!!!
CZ makes a QUALITY, DEPENDABLE, RELIABLE PRODUCT...PERIOD!!! And the 'percentages' prove that! You may not like the looks, the hand-feel, trigger-pull, etc... and that's where PT Barnum comes in... you have CHOICES! There are alot of great guns and great mfgrs out there, find the one that's RIGHT for you. But the fact remains, CZ makes a TOP Quality product! And for us, who love their looks, heavy-metal feel, craftsmanship, reliability and shooting... we've found our Home!... Hope you find yours!

"That's all I've got to say about that."

Maybe NOT... Maybe there's still someone out there that feels we haven't quite covered EVERYTHING that pertains to CZ triggers... Now's your chance!...
Cause if NOT, we're gonna be puttin' this baby to sleep' real soon!

Here's a CZ trigger question.

Two guns. . . . .

1. The Tactical Sport, has the SA trigger.

2. Angus putting in a custom hammer and SA trigger into an sp-01.

Would I be able to tell the difference between the two?

If you haven't noticed, I'm after a SA trigger. :)

if money is no object then, i'd get the TS. if you want to save a few, you can install just the SA trigger into the SP-01... but if angus does it for you, you'd need the comp hammer and polished action in order to really benefit the SA trigger and you'd have to see what he'd charge for that. when all is said and done, the TS might be the way to go for only a few bucks more, unless you plan on doing the SAO conversion to the SP-01 yourself.

I have the SP-01 tactical with 0 malfunctions after 1300 rds. I replaced the trigger and recoil springs. My CZ is dead-on accurate and anytime the shot is off its me. The extra weight at the muzzle definately helps with follow-up shots. Just like anything, its preference. I hated Glocks the 1st time I shot one but after firing some modded ones I changed my mind. I still like a steel gun and hammer though. ;)

And don't forget, with the SP-01, once you've emptied your magazine you can continue to poke 'em with rail mounted bayonet and if that gets old (as if) the damn thing is heavy enough to beat anything under 300 pounds to death.....

What can I say, I love my SP-01....:D

Money, Money, Money....

If money wasn't the problem, I'd get six 'h****rs' to work me over at once, but it usually is!

both would be the same.
the TS from the factory comes with the delrin trigger and breaks around 2#. you can clean it up to about 1.5#.
the SP01, install the steel trigger and the comp hammer, remove the FPB, will easily get 1.5#. leaving the FPB, probably around 2#.

the TS is a bigger frame though..so just be aware of that.

i haven't officially measured mine, but the gunsmiths and the like estimate mine to be 1-1.5#...

if money was no object i'd have the TS worked up into an open gun with a comp and c-more optics and a giant magwell.

Responding to the OP's request...I will share my current experience with my brand new, bone stock SP-01.

I've been to the range twice with mine and have around 500 rounds through it. I have run WWB, UMC and some Golden Saber through it. I have had a single FTF that was likely brought on by operator error, otherwise the gun has chewed through whatever I have fed it.

I am a CZ cheerleader...and don't dispute that. I am pleased with how this gun has worked out to date for me....and I would recommend it to people looking for a full size 9mm service pistol. :D

Accuracy: The gun is capable of more than I can deliver.
Ergonomics: Points well for me. It is kind of a boat anchor...but I like that.
Reliability: To date...99.98% (give or take)
Trigger: we all know the answer to this...I don't subjectively feel it is all that bad and it is already breaking in nicely.
Fit and Finish: It isn't a showpiece...I find the fit and finish more than adequate for the gun's purpose as a service pistol.

^^^ that's about my experience too. i've run WWB, UMC, atlanta arms and ammo factory reloads, and golden sabers. i'll be handloading for it once i get more comfortable. i've shot 127.5 power factor rounds out of the SP-01 and you know what? it's like shooting a staplegun! :what: my fiance found it heavy at first and the trigger was hard to pull (for her, as it was heavier in DA than her XD, SA mode was fine). she's gotten used to the weight (helps with recoil which she liked) and the trigger has smoothed out a bunch. no FTL, FTE, FTFs yet... had one case-head separation but that was totally an ammo problem, sprayed me in the face. that 500 round batch had some problems with it. i found 1 more bad brass, and 4 fat rounds, and several that had improper crimp (you could push the bullets into the brass). but anyways, i'm glad the case-head thing happened to me and not her. the gun shrugged it off and laughed. after a careful inspection and a cleaning when i got home, it was back in service the following night. :)

lysander, your review of the SP-01 is 'dead-on!!'...
I love your Ergonomics comment, "It's kinda like a Boat Anchor, but I like that."... EXACTLY how I feel, but couldn't express it that way! I'm 235lbs and have big hands, the SP-01 fits in my mitt PERFECT... I was born for it, and it for me! First time I held it, I simply said 'WOW' and had this big smile. But I'll hear guys say "I think it's too big" or "I don't like the feel"etc, etc... That's the point, everyone has to find his OWN gun!
My range guys love the M&P-9... shot 'em on several occassions (50-100rnds)... Gun looks OK, fits my hand pretty good... but HATE striker triggers, feel like 'mush'... WOULD NEVER GET ONE!! It's just not for ME... nothing against the Gun or S&W, which is a top-line manufacturer!
Shooting other guns is fun and gives you a chance to explore. But every time I'm done, I go back to my SP-01 or P-01, hold 'em and shoot 'em, then ask "What am I screwing-around with this other crap for" I have what I love and what's right for me... Old PT was right!!

It only weighs a few ounces more than other "boat anchor" like steel pistols, like, er, the 1911. Weighs about the same as the stainless Sigs, etc.

A lot of people may have gotten a bit spoiled by aluminum alloy and tactical tupperware.

^^^ i was about to say. the SP-01 isn't a true boat anchor. of the steel framed guns, it only weighs about the same as other full sized pistols in my hands.

SP01, ~1000 rounds, no problems.

75 Compact .40, ~1000 rounds, no problems.

97B, ~2000 rounds, no problems with ball ammo. HP FTF. After ramp job no problems with HP.

The polycoat finish can easily be scratched on all three.

CZ-40b ~12,000 rounds no problems. only 1 slight scratch from where a brass punch slipped while i was hitting it, so that was totally my fault. other than that, it's terrifically chemical resistant to all the cleaners and such i've used, and stands up to holster wear.

Can you please post a link of where to get the parts necessary to clean the stock trigger up?

I am interested in the SP-01, but I'd be getting the stock version, not the custom. I like that the stock version is designed as a service pistol for use with full power ammunition and the availability of night sights. Weakening the spring for use with lower powered ammunition and turning the pistol into a competition piece isn't my intent.

I'd love a SAO version, but I am not looking for a 2 pound trigger either. If just having a knowledgeable gunsmith tune the stock DA/SA trigger will allow me to carry cocked and locked with a decent SA trigger in the 4 to 5 pound range, I am willing to go that route.

Also, is there a manual I need to invest in or download to do any parts installation myself, as I am unfamiliar with the platform. I've detailed a Glock but that is about it...

these are the two threads that got me started. work slowly and in small amounts, and you won't have to buy a new part.if you want a nice SA trigger without the ultra light pull, install the CZ competition hammer and leave the stock mainspring in. most of the camming goes away with the comp hammer, but i would leave what's left of the positive cam in there just as added safety since you're carrying it. just smoothen out the sear and hammer engagement surfaces and don't change their angles. use something like a needle file to stay straight and work veeeerrryyy slowly in small amounts. i had to tear-down/re-assemble a few times while removing material, but that was me changing the angle of the engagement surfaces. you may also want a second set of hands when getting the mainspring in and out of the grip, too.
