I have been possibly offered one in a trade. I have never seen a .22 SP101 but I love my 3 inch .357 version. Does anyone have one and what do you think of it?

I don't have one, but would jump on the opertunity in a nano second at any reasonable price.

I knew they made them - I have not personaly handled one as they are hard to find.

ps: There are 2 on Gunbroker now, one with a asking starting bid of $625, the other a snubby, bid up to $450 and the reserve is not met yet.

I have two of these fine little, heavy handguns...:D One 4 inch and one 2.25 inch. I like them and shoot them a bit but they are sure heavy for such little guns. They both shoot well and are a lot of fun, but I also have a 10 shot Smith& Wesson 617 that is as accurate as a rifle.:)
It sure seems like ya run out of shots quick when ya only have 6 instead of 10.. :scrutiny:
Buy the Ruger and you'll never be able to wear it out in your life time.:)

I've got a 4"er with full underlug. Nice gun, heavy for it's size, accurate. I prefer my S&W Model 18, but I'm not getting rid of the Ruger.

I've got the 4" short lug version. Not sure why they stopped at six chambers, but it makes for one stout revolver.

You probably won't get this opportunity again anytime soon. I've never owned one or even seen one, but I would love to add that to the herd.

ooh, they're FUN.
only 6 chambers.
heavy, yes. so so little recoil, tho stingers give a little more pop.

I've got a snubby in 22 (2.5"), well sorta. Bought it about 10-12 years ago and my grandson fell in love with it, so I still have it in my safe, but I gave it to him. He is 11 and shoots it most every weekend when he comes to visit. Swapped out the factory grips to Hogues right after buying it.

I had one, 4" half lug version. Bought it, shot it a while, sold it for a nice profit. Never really fell in love with it.

Pretty heavy DA trigger. Tried Wolff springs, but even with the heaviest in the set got misfires, so went back to factory spring. The chambers were pretty rough. You could feel a tight patch sort of zing when pushed through. Some brands of ammo got tough to extract very quick. Took it to the smith and had him polish the chambers. It helped, but did not cure the problem.

It was an ok gun for what I paid, but I sure wouldn't pay what they are bringing now.

yeah, my chambers are a little rough.
I slicked up the action slightly following the IBOK, but haven't bothered with lighter springs. It could use more work, but I'm proceeding cautiously.

btw, Ruger can still fit cylinders to these things.
I forget the total cost, but for maybe $150 incl. all shipping, you could get an extra cylinder - then rechamber at home for .22WMR!
It has the same bore spec as the single-six. My own little fantasy, anyway.

Aaaaactually.... my real fantasy is a .22WMR SP101 w/ a 6" barrel and target sights.

I have the 4" full lug model and I love it plus it fits in my .357 sp101 holsters for fun.

convert it to .22 mag? That would be amazing. Could it still shoot .22 lr? Could a good gunsmith do this for a reasonable price?

ChefJeff, a .22WMR chamber CANNOT shoot a .22LR. well... it will probably fire, and the bullet will probably go out. But all your brass will split and stick in the chambers. That's why I mentioned getting a second cylinder fit. Then you just swap cylinders like with a single-six.

I put the "middle" Wolff spring in mine. Stock trigger return spring, since the Wolff was too slow. It's a very nice little revolver for practicing trigger technique.

hahaha, I'm glad I'm not the only one with .22LR speedloaders. :)

unfortunately after a cylinder or two I have to fully seat them with my thumb. Not quite enough mass to overcome the friction from the scummied up rough chambers.

Daizee, cool, that would be great cause the sp101 is so easy to take apart. I too have speed loaders for my sp101 and they work for a little while and then they get tight, time for a quick cleaning.

isnt this one of those: No I dont know where a 22 SP101 is and I wouldnt tell you if I did so I could go buy it.

I actually think a Smith would be easier to have an extra cylinder for, swap-wise because just the one screw and off it comes. But... bah! I love my SP101! :)

I once saw the 2" version - seemed like a LOT of gun for the performance of a 2" .22. Actually, if it were a 5" it would be smokin'.
