I have several SP101; I have a set of rubber Hogue on one, a Pachmyer on another, and stock grips on the third. None of these grip options really make me happy; I'd vastly prefer something like the Pach Compact JFrame if I can find it. My specific complaints are that the Hogue is too thin, the Pach is too short, and the stock grip is way too short.

I like these revolvers, but really need a better grip to love them as they deserve. Any suggestions for grip options that I've overlooked?

Pachs for the SP101 are totally different than they are for J-Frames which sucks.

If you're willing to go with wood, Badgers are ok, but mine cracked where they meet in the back from shooting .357's.

You're basically out of luck. Trausch are about the only other rubber options, but they're made in France, and last I checked took about 2 months to take possession of them.

That's a bummer. The Pach grip made all the difference in the world to me. Love it.

I prefer the stock grips. For me, they are comfortable when shooting and work excellent for concealed carry. Although not the best for pocket carry the stock grips work well for that too.

If you can live with wood there are a number of options. First, Hogue makes wood grips in a number of configurations with and without finger grooves and wood species. Second, Herrett makes wood grips that can be fit to one's hand. They use hand tracings. There are the already mentioned Badgers which can be had with or without finger grooves and if ordered from Jim Badger he will make them to fit one's hand. There are wood grips on Ebay from Thailand (see below):

and others there.

I have tried the stock grip. The Pachmayer. And finally the Trausch.

Hands down the Trausch is the best I have tried. Fits my hand perfectly, and handles the hottest loads with ease.

I bought mine right from trausch's website.
You may have to look around on the web. I believe the founder died not too long ago. And the family is not going to produce them anymore.
I hope I'm wrong but that is what I have heard.

I picked up a pair of the LG-111 grips - Crimson Trace - actually handled recoil BETTER than the stock's (despite being all-plastic) - but I recently went back because the weapon POINTS better with the stock grips, and has a much more repeatable index with the "squared-off" backstrap, rather than the rounded form of the LG-111.

Likewise, the LG-111 allowed me to hide the SP-101 with literally a cotton polo and shorts - 3" model IWB too, and using only a regular (flimsy) 1.25" dress pant belt with a $5 used Bianchi holster.

The stock grips I've found to be moderate on hiding (tend to print unless the revo sits deep - though I'm looking into a CrossBreed for that problem), but work fine with anything involving an overshirt.

I'd look into the LG-303 - they're thin for concealment but apparently take recoil REALLY well.

Likewise, I've heard a hundred good things about the Trausch and the Badgers - the latter I'm looking into myself.

I had my SP101 reworked by Gemini Customs, and they now offer some SUPER nice custom grips, which they produce right in their own shop.

Here are some Cocobolo they they made for my SP101

they are shaped like the Badgers, but NOT laminated wood (my Badgers cracked, due to high pressure from 357 rounds...)

I started looking for new grips after a few afternoons practicing with Safariland speed loaders and found the stock Ruger grips do not have enough of a relief on the left side grip to let the speed loader line up with the cylinder as well as I would like.

I figured wood grips may be the answer since I can remove more wood from the grip to let the speed loader get in there and line up better.

I found some used grips at my local gun store and they seem like the answer to my problem. I have fired full power 357 mag. and didn't feel like they made a difference in felt recoil, I did feel like the gun was held in a more solid grip and didn't move around in my hand as much as with the Pachmayers rubber grip, or the stock Ruger grip.

The inside of the grip is marked
Eagle
Grips
India

I got mine used for $15 bucks, I think this is the same outfit but cannot be sure.

Hope this helps...

I always disliked finger grooves. I even took a Dremel to the high points of the grooves on all my Glocks because they just didn't fit right. But after trying a Hogue Monogrip on a J-frame S&W, I replaced the grips on every revolver I own with the Monogrips, including the SP101. Nothing fits me better on wheelguns. So, I got nothing in the area of alternatives to the ones mentioned.

I found Trausch for mine and they seem to work well for me.

Trausch has some work to do, it seems.

The website order wouldn't process due to a script error.

There is no round butt model for current SW686, his "S&W - K/L".

The fax number didn't answer.

There is no email address listed.

The direct phone line went to leave-a-message.

Not very impressive, but if I can wait 6 months for Eagle and that beautiful work, I can give Mr. Trausch a break. Hopefully, he'll call me back.
