will the dao hammer from a 2" sp101 fit on to a sp101 that has a da sa hammer?

I plan on converting a 3" to dao but I liked how the stock dao hammer looked better then one that has bobbed.

As memory serves me, I don't believe that it will. Seems to me that this is a modification the factory usually makes.

PS: If it were my 3" SP-101 I wouldn't convert it to DAO; but, that's because I want to keep it where I can fire effectively beyond 16 yards. ;)

I will give ruger a call (why i did not think of that earlier is beyond me) I'd just like the bennifits of the dao without sacrificning any of the ballistics.

The DAO hammer has the cocking notch removed from the hammer and of course no hammer spur. Both the hammer spur and the cocking notch can be removed by a local gunsmith that knows what he is doing probably for less money as shipping costs a lot and Ruger will not sell the hammer separately. They can remove the spur so as to duplicate the appearance of the factory DAO hammer. In the past I have had this done on one SP I had. An alternative might be to look for the DAO hammer from places that part out guns such as Numrich. I have found them on the Internet for about $22 shipping included but it takes a bit of time. The SP I currently have I switch out between the spurred and dao hammer. Takes but a minute or so.

rugrev, so you are saying that I can convert it from sa da to dao just by putting in the stock ruger dao hammer?

hammer

Why not just grind the spur off of the hammer that is on your gun if you want a bobbed hammer. I did a model 37 smith that way and it works great that way. Also I might add that there has been so many done that way you couldn't begin to count them.

The DAO hammer NORMALLY will work. Due to tolerances there is the possibility that the double action sear part will not work. This has been noted by a gunsmith on the Ruger Forums. In my experience with my GPs and SPs the parts have worked and it seems to for others but it is a caveat. If it did not work you could always resell it (a pain I know but will get the money back) as it could work for someone else. This is why it is listed as "factory fitted" as I gather when the factory assembles revolvers they mix and match parts until they function.
