I am picking a ruger sp101 up in the morning and have been looking for holsters online but there is not a lot of choices out there so I was wondering what other gun are compatible with the sp101 holster size?

BTW I am looking mainly on ebay so I can use some of my paypal (hid from wife) stash :neener: .

Hey, I just got a S & W Model 60 s/3" Bbl. Len.
There's a lot of options out there for the Model 60s with
the 2 1/4 inch barrels but the 3 incher has much fewer
options. I have a line on a holster for a Ruger SP101 3.5
inch bbl. that is a RH side / FBI ( grip fwd ) cant holster

I'll see if it fits my S & W otherwise, what is the bbl len.
of your SP101?

From what i've heard, the SP101 is larger enough that it won't fit in well fitted S&W J-frame holsters. on the other hand those silly nylon and foam cheapo holster that will fit "a small framed revolver" may fit both. THen again, those holsers are generally absolute crap.
But I could be wrong.

Like Blind Justice, I just got a three inch Model 60, with target sights and the sweetest trigger I've ever felt on a J-frame, and it fits quite well in a Don Hume paddle holster I bought for my three inch SP 101. It's not quite as tight a fit as the SP 101, but I can turn it over and shake it several times before the Model 60 comes loose. I don't know if the SP 101 would fit in a Model 60 holster, but it should be close.

There are a ton of holsters available for the SP, but you have to increase your search beyond ebay. Most of the ebay stuff is junk, if you want something comfortable and durable, look for a real leather holster maker and not an uncle mike (no offense UM, i own 2 and they are great for what i use them for) that is about the top of the line you will find on ebay.

It depends on how tightly fitted/molded the holster is. It is very close to the Colt Detective Special in size. If not too tightly molded around the cylinder flutes (in a different locations between six- and five-shot cylinders), one sized for that gun should work. The magnum versions of the S&W J-frames are also close.

I carry my SP101 with a Clipdraw, which will save you the trouble of having to get a holster. I haven't been disappointed, anyway.

A holster made to fit a post-1972 Colt Detective Special will usually work with an SP101, unless the muzzle portion of the holster is super-tight, as the DS snubby has a 2" barrel, and the SP101 is 2.25". Of course, a holster for a 3" DS will have the length to hold a 2.25" SP101.
