Hi,

I'm home on leave and had been debating about a new 1911. I have wanted a 38 super for a long time, but each time I caved to a 45acp. Well this time is no exception...

So the 45acp two toned (pictures will be pasted with an edit or follow-up post) is termed "Colt model O1980CM Special Combat Govt, Competition Model, 45 acp, 5" Bbl, Blue/Satin Nickel Model O" on the white dustcover.

The pistol was purchased locally, and after the 3 day waiting period in which I shot a plethora of other firearms waiting for the recent purchase - such a stupid law - I picked up my NIB pistol and toted it to the local range.

The pistol came in the Colt custom shop white outer blue inner box, with a test target, two shooting star magazines, and some written lawyer information to accompany a lock. Also there's some other paperwork concerning NRA.

Prior to ranging, we loaded up all my 1911 magazines and were just shy of 200 rounds loaded...we had to load 12 more rounds after firing all of them. The magazines are twenty 8 round magazines - Colt, Wilson Combat, and the two new Shooting Stars and four 7 round magazines all Colt. I need to get a few more magazines so I don't have to reload any at the range.

We fired 4 boxes of inexpensive 230 gr ball Monarch 45 acp = 200 rounds fired. Only 3 boxes are pictured because I didn't realize that one of the empties was still in the range bag until after I took the pics.

We fired at a 7 yard target (I think it was 7...may have been 5...it seemed really close) while we were letting our rifles cool down from some 200 yard work.

Although we were proud to hit the target...and we did, the center and lower half were obliterated, this was mainly a family familiar fire function test. First I shot a couple of random magazines full while showing my two sons how to git er done. Afterwards my 19 year old (man I'm getting old) tore the target up with several magazines, next my 15 year old started shooting...all of his nintendo training had paid off because he could really shoot the darned thing. Later came my wife - the princess of the family - who comes to the range every time I do, pays to shoot just to sit by me on the range with double hearing protection on and play plants versus zombies on the iphone while I shoot...she is so awesome, well, she shot three magazines and changed the magazines well and everthing.

After she shot, my 15 year old could not contain himslef and decided to finish off nearly all of the magazines - leaving the last two for me. Which I shot satisfied that everyone shot well and had a safe time.

Throughout the evolution the pistol shot well and did not malfunction in any manner.

The following pictures show what comes with the pistol NIB and the variety of magazines that was shot with it.

I like it...maybe I'll have a reason to chase 38 super brass someday...but not this week.

Later,

L.W.
