Special prices on Glock pistols for Active and Reserve Military

Good news guys, I was reading through the latest "Glock Autopistols" and I saw a full page add in there about how Glock is making its entire line of pistols available to all active duty and reservists at a special "Armed Forces" price. That got my mouth watering a little. Then I called the G-boys down in Smyrna to get the rest of the story. It turns out that Glock has authorized its dealers to give active and reserve military the same price it gives to LEO's on the Individual Purchase Plan or whatever they call it when LEO's have to buy their own sidearms. Glock customer service even gave me the names of all the gunstores in my area that are participating. The Glock rep on the phone also told me that this program is so new, that a lot of dealers might not even know about it yet, and that you should have your gun store call the Glock rep and ask about it if they are unsure. I called a guy around here and asked what I could get a G26 for at the Armed Forces price, and he quoted me $393, now that really got my mouth watering because I can't find any around here less than $499 regular price. Now that's quite a discount. Just trying to give you guys a heads-up on a way to save some of our hard-earned money. Check in to it if you are interested.

An old man once told me that we could give everyone a 5 dollar bill as they walked through the front door of the office, and some would still ask, "Why not $10?" Can't you just be happy that a company founded in Austria is willing to give American Armed Forces great discounts on their products. I mean, sure, it'd be great if the other manufacturers followed suit, but come on. This seems to also remind me of what another old man said about a a gift horse or something like that.

I could be happier if an American gun manufacturer would give our servicemen and women a discount But I do give Glock credit for starting a program like this. It's another way to say thanks to our military. It's hard to say if Glock will sell many more pistols because of this, but the offer to sell at a discount is a great gesture.

It's a sweet deal for military people and I'll probably give them a call after I graduate from OSUT in October. But is there any real benefit besides fun as a civilian for the military people? We've all endlessly hashed out that NO PERSONAL SIDEARMS are legal in the military.

Is this just LEO pricing for people who happen to be military or can these sidearms actually see official use the way they do when sold to LEOs at LEO pricing?

I think it's a smart marketing move to try to get them more military business.

Am a former serviceman some 55 years ago, and own an ex-LEO Glock 22 in .40 caliber, used but liiked like new, shoots like new, and night sights included. Added lots of goodies including a decent trigger pull. I had to pay nearly 500 bucks back three or four years ago.

And it sits on my nightstand like a faithful old hound. For fun I tote a Walther War era P-38, for serious bizz, a 1911 clone very tricked up. And I'm happy as a hawg with a gallon of slop!

Gee guys, lighten up. I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth ... simply sayin' it'd be nice if the manufacturers of more expensive handguns would cut us a good deal. It would be nice if some of the younger guys could afford some of the better quality guns or especially versions of the pistols we use on duty, i.e., Beretta 92s, SIG 228s ... or perhaps cool guns like some of the pricier production 1911s.

I understand S&W is reducing their copy, the SIGMA to around $250... such a close copy S&W has to pay Glock royalties on it... and at $250 they seill make a tidy profit.

You're right

Old Dog: Didn't mean to sound too harsh in my earlier posts, and you are correct, but very glass-is-half-empty way of looking at it. However, yes, it would be nice if American companies like Kimber and Springfield would follow suit. Heck if Wilson Combat jumped on the bandwagon, I might be able to afford one of their pistols in, oh, about 17 years of saving. Hopefully if this program from Glock gets enough recognition and a very positive response from us, that other firearms manufacturers will follow suit. I think most of the leg work is up to you and I to get the word out, and maybe pose the question to companies like the ones you and I have mentioned. Say to them "Glock is giving us a discount, what? You don't want to support the military, and you are an American founded company? Thanks a lot!" Or whatever. I've had a lot of luck getting people to come down on the price of their goods, saying "I really want to buy your(Brand A) product, but Brand X is going to give me the same thing, just way cheaper and so I think I'll go with them instead." I usually get a "Hey wait, let's see what we can do." And then I know I've won. Maybe the same thing could work in this situation, I dunno. What do you guys think.

Once other companies hear that Glock is offering some sort of "armed Forces" discount, we may see other companies do the same. How they do it may be different from Glock.

A discount coupon from a manufacturer would be the simplest way. Provide proof of military service (like a DD214) and send that with a coupon to the company for a rebate check. I would think it would be difficult for gunshops to do something like this in the form of a direct $-off price reduction. Some shops would simply not take part and some may not be able to afford the discount immediately.

Back in 02 when I bought my Ruger P89, it came with a coupon for $40 off and all I had to do was to send in a copy of the sales receipt and the coupon and I got a check. Something like this would be the easiest way for the manufacturers to do it.

I wonder if a letter-writing or e-mail campaign may be the best way to suggest to the manufacturers that a discount program for military personnel would work? A simple suggestion of a discount offer program along with an appeal to their sense of patriotism and support of the troops could get them to start such a deal. Even if they only offered discounts on specific models and maybe a specific dollar amount would be a start.

I am defenitely in support of an e-mail campaign to try and get other companies on board. What would come in really handy is an official statement from Glock that we could direct these other companies to, or maybe an email from Glock with the details of their program that we could forward on to the reps of other firearms companies. I'll see what I can come up with, but some dealers that might be watching this thread could really help us out by letting us know what kind of official documentation they got from Glock to start the program. I think I'm not the only one who's felt like this has been a long time coming.

It Never Hurts to Ask

When I buy just about anything -- guns, automotive conveyances, movie tickets, hotel reservations, camping gear, fishing & hunting gear or whatever -- I always make it a point to (1) show my enthusiasm for their product (if I've decided to buy), and (2) ask what the discount rate is for law enforcement and military customers.

Sometimes I get the "deer in the headlights" look - and then I ask the manager the same thing. 7 times out of 10, I usually swing some kind of a discount and I make sure I tell them how much I appreciate it. I thank them politely for their support and patriotism and walk off smiling.

It never hurts to ASK.

It's cool to give military people discounts, especially during wartime. I'm down the road from Ft. Jackson and I've seen complete strangers buy soldiers dinner before just because they're in fatigues.

Zogorion, just wondering where you got yours. I called glock and they told me the closest place with this deal is in collinsville,VA. I asked if there was something closer to Hampton but he said this was it. I don't know if someone local is extending the same deal to active duty military.

for clarification it must be an authorized Glock LE distributor. they are getting special prcing on their stock. you can't go to a regular (non LE distributor) store expecting the pricing. they won't give the pricing to you, nor should you go demanding it. you are paying below dealer cost!

this pricing has been in effect for the last 1 1/2 yrs approx!

Well that makes sense, I'll have to find a local LE dealer then. Thanks for the info I plan on going to a gun show this weekend but If I can get a better price from a LE dealer than I'll go that route.
