Oh Hi Oh
I want to drop a spurless hammer in my Ruger Speed-Six. Someone has offered to sell me a hammer for a Service Six. I'm told the hammer is the same part for the Speed-Six and Service Six. Anyone know if this is correct?

Can anyone recommend a good source for Ruger revolver parts in addition to Numrich?

Thanks

The same basic hammer was used in the Security Six/Service Six/Speed Six series of revolvers. What made the difference was sights (adjustable vs. fixed) and the shape of the butts (square vs. rounded).

As much as I don't like them, you might try www.ebay.com. Also www.gunbroker.com (which I do like). ;)

There is so such thing as a sure drop-in. The Ruger factory considers all hammers as needing fitting. I obtained one spurless hammer at a gun show long ago, and while it improved the DA pull in my 6" Security Six, it does not function in SA at all, even though the SA notch is present. OTOH, another spurless hammer, that I found on evilbay, dropped right into my Speed Six, and improved both the SA and DA functions. So, for me, that is a 50% success rate, with a very small sample.
