Speed six or GP100?

I tripped over a deal on a brand new in the box Ruger Police Six with a 4" barrel around 2010. It shoots Remington .357 125 grain JHPs to point of aim at 25 yards with respectable accuracy. I converted the grip frame to round butt. With a DeSantis pancake style holster and an HKS M3 speed loader, it has provided a warm sense of security at times. Light weight, powerful, accurate. One of my favorites.

How did you go about converting it to round butt and (2) what grips were available for that? PM if off topic.

A THR member had an old set of factory original round butt grips. He was kind enough to trace the for me, scan the trace and email them to me. I used a Dremel tool to match the profile. Pachmayr round butt grips were still around on Ebay.

I gave away an SP-101 that I loved, but my best friend loved more.
I wanted a .357 in blue with sights, so I traded off a couple of things to get a Security-Six snubnose. WOW! Love that one!
Then, I inherited a bit of ca$h, so I went to the gunshop and bought a GKGP-161, that's a RUGER 6" Polished Stainless Full Lug in .357 w/sights; a nice HOGUE Cocobolo fingergroove grip; a holster; two speedloaders and some ammo ( and, yes, it, too, shoots tiny groups at 15-yds. w/Winchester 125-gr. JHP ). NICE!
I did the ARFCOM thing and 'got both'!!!
I think the 3" full-lug stainless GP-100 would be a great compromise between the two, but I still like the black/blued finish better, if you could find one.
Good Luck!

Thanks Brianinca

The hogue grips came with the gun, but I a looking for a set that fit medium sized hands a little better.

Thanks again, I picked pachmayrs yesterday, off to the range for new years :)

I have the speed six blued. I picked it up from an old friend who has since passed away. It was new in the box.
I've fired it a couple of times and it shoots great. Built like an anvil. I have to disagree on its ccw roll. I've tried numerous holsters and haven't been able to keep the gun from wanting to roll over. To well balanced.

I also have the service six. This is my favorite carry gun. It stays where I put it on my belt. 4 inch barrel gives more velocity and I like that. Both are blued steel. I hate stainless in firearms. I tried the gp100 and didn't like it. I do love my super Blackhawk though.

This is a holster issue that might get moved, but a 3" gun does not carry well when "too high and tight". The longer barrels keep the gun from tipping. You just need a holster with a bit lower stance IMO (higher belt slots).

Got the compact grips from Ruger, man what a difference they make in fitting my hand. Have not shot them yet but the gun feels much better and conceals better (not carrying it yet, want to shoot more first - but checking) with the smaller grip.
