I will be looking to get 5 shot, 6 shot, and 7 shot speedloaders. I currently have twisty speedloaders, but was hoping from something that is push button?
Never checked yet re 7 shot versions but I will certainly endorse good words for Safariland. HKS loaders have the awkward twist lock and release and for me anyways - the rounds wobble all over the place.
Comp I and Comp II Safarilands are the ideal for carry IMO and tho there is a twist operation involved when charging them - the release is elegantly simple, just by the thrust of unit against back of cylinder - oh and rounds held much tighter. I now favor the Comp II as it is only marginally larger but is easier IMO.
For situations where size is not too important the Comp III with its spring is superb - good hold, easy alignment and it ''shoots'' the rounds in - very nice loader.
Safariland is the best I've seen so far. Don't know if they have any 7 rounders, but you won't be disappointed with them. Unlike a lot of things, they live up to the hype.
Much more complete line, and many of the loaders do not have wobble.
I do carry a Comp I in a split six pouch, but will only reload after I have unloaded primary, and two bugs.
Saf loaders are fine until they get a bit of use then they start to wobble, also much more subject to wear/damage. That said, I just replace the Saf when they start to go bad.
Never had to replace an HKS.
Both have positive and negative points.
If I had to trust my life to one, it would be HKS. Never seen one fail.
Longwitz in Germany makes the S.L. Variant series. Finest speedloaders in the world. Each cartridge has a spring behind it that thrusts them into the chambers.
I've been using the same Saf. 5 shot loader for J frames for 20+ years without a hitch. They are smaller than HKS and load much easier into the charge holes IMHO, and there's no fumbling with "do i twist it left or twist it right?"
When I bought a 686P last year I contacted Saf. They do not now, nor do they have any plans, to make a 7 shot loader.
I have both Saf & HKS for J frame 5 shots, and have "test-loaded". Saf is better everytime and that's what I carry for the J as primary reloader.
I had a long competition loader break in tourney but I replace mine after about 500 loads of 6 rounds what mine did was its plunger broke. No other problems here.
