Is the Speer 147 gr Gold Dot hp plated or jacketed? I just purchased some and want to load some up, but don't know whether to use fmj or lead (plated) data. I have a lot of different powders (all pistol) and would like some "favorite loads" for this bullet if anyone have one.

The Gold Dot bullets are actually plated bullets. Go to the Speer website and you should be able to find a description of how they're made. The plating is however much thicker than the typical Ranier or Berrys, equal to conventional copper jacketed so you can use data for JHP or better yet data developed by Speer.

The link hydraulicman posted is a good source of data. Speer and Alliant are owned by the same parent company now and the Alliant data is the same as what you will find in the Speer manuals using Alliant powder.

Yes the Gold Dots are good bullets and I load them as jacketed ones. I have had excellent results with them punching paper in my 357. My accurate loads are just under midrange in the Speer book for my 6.5" blackhawk.

Thanks for the information. I have Unique and Power pistol, so I'll give them a try. It appears that these are the exact loads if I'm reading the data correctly( no minimum-maximum)

If only one load is listed, Those are MAX loads.

Reduce 10% for starting loads.

The Speer #13 manual lists:
9mm 147 grain Gold Dot & TMJ:

Unique
3.8 Start - 4.3 MAX

Power Pistol
4.5 Start - 5.0 MAX.

Thanks, I finally saw it on the intro. page. It would be nice if they put the spread on the load itself ( guess I would have to think then.)
