Speer Gold Dot 9mm +P 124gr JHP

Anybody know where I can find some of this stuff online? I'm talking about the high quality carry ammo, not the reclassified cheap ammo labeled as "Gold Dot." The only place I can find it is at my local range for around $30 (Maybe more...Not sure) for a box of 20...That seems a bit steep to me. Any help would be appreciated!

I generally can find it at gunshows for 40-60 cents per round.
Shops around here run ~75 cents per round, might have come down as the frenzy slowed.

124grain+P is my first choice in 9mm because it feeds in everything I have and is an all around good available round unlike exotics or super-expensive ammo ... stock up when you can find it and the stash gets big pretty quick.

I'll give a huge +1 to Ammotogo. Awesome people to deal with and fantastic pricing.

I think he is referring to the bulk pack Speer Gold Dot ammo that appeared several years back.

The story on that ammo is that Speer changed the type of primers in mid-contract with a big buyer. When that govt/LE buyer found out, the contract was cancelled. Word was the changed primer did not meet reliability standards and was not foil coated (?)...something like that.

The purported unacceptable "failure" rate was 1 failure in 300,000 rounds...extremely low in my opinion. How reliable is your "pet" ammo?

I think the whole matter was an administrative decision, and the agency wanted to avoid the possibility of any liability issues that may have arisen--however miniscule the likelyhood.

Speer replaced the "bad" primers with the required ones (marked with a distinctive "A"), but the govt agency cancelled anyway. Speer dumped it all on the market back then at very cheap prices, packaged in the 250 round bulk-pack. The stuff is sold as "plinking ammo" and a big label on the box says: "Not For Law Enforcement Use".

I loaded up big-time with all available calibers: 9mm, 40 S&W, 357 Sig. I have shot many hundreds of rounds, and it all functions flawlessly, is very accurate, and reliable. I don't know if I will ever reach that magical 300,000th round, but I don't care. I still use it in my CCW piece.

Alot of the ammo I have has the "A" marking on the primer and that is what I use, although I wouldn't hesitate to use the other stuff.

the 250 round bulk-pack Gold Dots are excellent ammo and a great buy...if find some of this "cheap junk" please let us know, because i'll buy all i can get

Shooters of Jaxs is five minutes from my house and a great store. If you click the link it says that the listed 9mm is practice ammo and not for LE use. This may be what the original poster is speaking of. I can't comment on the difference but I buy Gold dots off the shelf from them or I buy from Ammotogo. Gold dots are the only self defense rounds I carry in any caliber, which may be a wierd quirk as I am sure other good rbands exist.

Streicher's site shows $27 per box 50. Still, some of the best 9mm, along with the Winchester T and Federal HST.
