My stepmother recently asked me to clean an old .22 revolver for her; after doing so, I got curious about the maker. Here's what I found on the gun:

On one side of the barrel:
The Spesco Corp Atlanta GA
Single-action 22 LR Mod R12

On the other side of the barrel:
Reck 8560 LAUF Made in West Germany

She says her ex-husband bought it for her "20 years or so ago".

Any information would be helpful!

Spesco Corp imported and marketed SXS's and several other types of firarms mady by Miguel Larranaga of Spain back in 1969

Hopefully someone is still watching this thread. Yes, I know it's old, but I just found this site today.
My dad gave me my grand-dads old .22 and i was actually able to use it for a few years after wards.
My questions are: Are these revolvers fixable?
How many are still in existence (firing capabilities, not wall hangers)?
and, Are they worth anything anymore?
I'm not too big on the idea of selling it, after all, it was my grandfathers (although I have no idea where he may have picked it up)
I'm just mostly curious about the history behind it....does anyone know anymore than what was previously posted??

Hi, Bratracer,

Those guns, with few exceptions, were made cheaply and sold cheaply, often for as little as $10. They are often called "Saturday Night Specials" (a racist term) and even though importation stopped with the Gun Control Act of 1968, the anti-gun gang still raises money by campaigning against "...deadly revolvers, selling for $9.95..."

The guns are not durable and have little value even in working condition, with $50 being about average.

If you have one that works and shoots, fine. But they are usually not worth fixing if something breaks and few gunsmiths will touch them for that reason.

If the gun has sentimental value, good, but I would not depend on it for any serious purpose.

Jim

The spesco .22 may not be an expensive weapon, for someone who has owned and used one for the last 30 years I can tell you I would put it up against any other single action revolver out there, this weapon has been though every possible situation imaginable and has never failed the do its job.

I fire remington maximag .22 round in this gun and have always hit my mark, there is nothing cheaply made about them, and if you go on E-bay
you will see they sell for 150.00 to 250.00 not 50.00 dollars as some people
would have you believe.

I don't expect anyone to share my enthusiasm but have to set some people straight that this is a good handgun and not a 50.00 piece.

Spesco Imported the Reck, not the Rohm. The Rohm RG-10 was the one referred to as 50 dollars. If you have the single action, then you probable have the Reck R-12. Karl Arndt Reck Sportwaffenfabrick KG Lauf/Pegnitz, Germany. They have since changed hands and now the only firearm they produce is a starting pistol. While the Reck is still not a class act, it is several steps above the RG-10.:)

Actually, Mr. James had it correct. It is a Reck. The off side says Reck. 8560 Lauf made in west Germany.
This is one of the few revolvers that I find I actually enjoy shooting. It is dead on, it's light weight and it's easy to handle. However, I haven't been able to use it over the last 10 yrs or so because the firing pin no longer works reliably.
My original question is...Can it be fixed. I couldn't find any info on the company to know how popular these guns were or are, or even so much as how well built they are. So, back to my original question....is this a gun that is built well enough to put the $$ into getting it fixed. Beyond that it makes no difference to me if it's a wall hanger or not. Sentimental value overrules even if this is a $3000 gun.

BTW, the ebay ad that was posted is exactly what mine looks like but with a black trigger and hammer. I also have to say, I feel lucky to also still have the mag chamber as well.

Numrich arms has the R-12 firing pin listed at $5.45, it is listed as being in stock, however with volume of business they do that may not be the case by the time you contact them. Under R and then Reck. http://www.e-gunparts.com/

Spesco .22 revolver

The one I'm trying to fix has gold plated trigger and hammer.Appears in all respects to have no wear at all, bluing, rifling, no dings, nothing.Shoots into the X every shot. Then comes the extraction, and it doesn't.Have to remove the cylinder and punch them out.Chambers are swollen to .243-.244, and that would be very dangerous if it was tried with any hyper velocity stuff.

Falcon revolver

The chambers on the gun I have are swollen way beyond 22 Mag, in the first 1/4 inch. However, a 22 Mag will only seat in the first 2/3 of the chamber.Years ago, I saw a 22 that had been bored out with a 1/4 inch drill bit, so it would take a 22 Mag.Too much clearance in the chamber, and it had exploded on the first shot. The Falcon grip and trigger guard are one piece aluminum, like a Ruger.Nothing like a Rohm/RG.Have to look for a way to fix what I've got

Back to the Falcon 22.Ron James, you hit it right on the head- .22 mag. When I had fired it with 22lr it had carboned over a little m on the front of the cylinder and I didn't see it til I went back to cleaning it up.It came with three boxes of long rifle, so I could shoot and see what was wrong with it.Fires 22 mag, and ejects just fine. Thanks a bunch.

Fyrfinder wrote: On the question of whether Reck single actions are still around and if they are fixable, I just came back from a local gunshop with a Reck parts gun. The dealer wasn't about to sell it as a firearm so he had cut the top strap to make in a "non" gun. Was joking about selling it for a dollar. So .. I bought it ... for a dollar. Several of the parts look like they could be used in other imported single action 22's .. and some, like the firing pin may be unique to the 8560 LAUF model R-12. I have a few single actions and haven't investigated what I can use or not yet ..... but most certainly if the parts that I don't need can help another member .... well, how special can that be? I have all but the top strap, the cylinder and the cylinder pin.
