Spetnaz vs Green beret (holster related)

I think they really wanted to avoid the whole AR vs. AK thing. Can't blame them, I try to avoid it too. :D

When they showed the pistols, I was certain the M9 would win. I'm a Makarov, but I'm not pretending it's a better pistol than the Beretta. If the GB had just taken a little time to aim, he could have still come out ahead, but the Spetnaz guy was better in that drill. It was a case of a better operator, not necessarily a better weapon.

What it all boils down to, though, is some really cool weapon testing and fun experiments. The data gathering is really kind of superfluous. Really, how accurately can you decide who's going to win between a knight and a pirate? But the testing was fun.

What i've figured out about the show is they just pick who they want to win and then figure out a way to make it seem like it just happened that way. For example the Saiga shotgun cam into use in the mid 90's and so did the green berets semi auto shotgun the m1014, why did they not let them use it I wonder. Another strange occurrence is how in the first few shows i think they only allowed a set number of kills per weapon, but in the monk vs mauri the twin blades got like 560 kills. So I mean i think you shouldn't trust any results they get off there on the overall victor but its still fun to see people come on there and show how much of a BA they think they are like the mafia dude.

I agree that the GB was by far not the best pick for this episode.

Anyone remember the show "Combat Missions" from a few years back, where they pitted SF and SWAT Operators against one another in drills and scenarios?

In the end, the winner was former SEAL Stephen "Scott" Halverson. So maybe a SEAL team would've been a better option.

Note: Halverson was killed in and ambush in Fallujah while working protection duty with Blackwater. He was a helluva soldier, and it was a terrible way to die. -RIP

Honestly while the show is amusing... the Spetsnatz are KNOWN for the "combat shovel" they even train to THROW the damn thing. EVERYthing is a weapon to them.

Why didn't the M-4 beat the AK-74? they didn't shoot past 50 yards.

Why didn't the Spetsnatz guy adjust his aim? because shooting through the eye ball was as dead as shooting through the nose.

Spetsnatz was used for a variety of military and paramilitary acts (say, like beating up a bunch of armed Armenians and Azerbajanis to get the keys back to nuclear launchers armed only with shovels and posing as 'mine workers' --this really happened). Or gassing an entire school ("Gas what gas?")
and shooting every terrorist in the head whether they were down or not. Fact is while they train to do some bad-ass stuff, but training indigenous populations like the berets do was never really their top priority, this was usually handled by military intelligence officers.

Every time I see that show it reminds me of the scene in "Stand By Me" where the two kids are arguing over whether Superman or Mighty Mouse would win in a fight. They conclude that Superman would win "because he's a real guy." That show makes about as much sense.
And correct me if I'm wrong but it looked like the Russian was using a -47 instead of a -74 in the trial.
I laughed out loud when the Russian guy with the Makarov beat the GB with the Beretta. The other people on the treadmills at the gym thought I was nuts. I love my Makarovs.

I find it interesting that they try to reduce it all down to numbers by using their computer program. Without actually having the opponents fight to the death, I guess it is a reasonable way to handle things. I often cannot understand how or why they rate one weapon better than another. In this case the the etool mauled the opponent, while the "shooting knife" to me just seems like total pete (BS). A one shot weapon, that if it happens to hit perfectly might disable, but if it hits askew or if it hits a non vital area.. GB is gonna beat your a$$ with his etool :), then pull your shooting knife out of his shoulder to carve you a new one:neener:

Sounds like plenty of you have more experience than I do, but as an old Marine, who lives and works in and around Army SF guys daily, these two GB guys seemed a little, ah... rusty and maybe not quite as sharp as they once were. Simply have to be able to handle your sidearm better than that.

Oh well... my boy and I love the show, love to complain to each other about the winners, the weapon selections, the smack talk and the jokers who are on the show. It is good fun and a novel idea for a show. I will keep watching and occasionally :banghead: over who wins and sometimes:D over who wins... thankfully William Wallace won over Shaka Zulu this week...

after watching this...

I think my next weapon is gonna have to be a Scottish claymore sword:evil:

What got me about the show was several things.

1. I am not an amazing special forces hero that is uber proficient with the M9 but I honestly believe I could have done better with my 92FS than he(Mr. overly cocky GB) did in the pistol Comp--I also believe that half of my CCW class could have as well-including the girl. That guy just wasn't on top game.

2. The SAIGA shotgun wasn't used enough to see it jam and lock up into a piece of scrap metal--Not that I'm a huge fan of the Mossberg 590 but IMHO it's more reliable.

3. What the heck is up with comparing an E-tool to a Spetsnaz Ballistic Knife. Hello Green Berets can carry knives as well. And the whole ballistic knife thing although novel isn't super great.

4. The Spetsnaz guys they had on the show seemed to be on top game while the GBs seemed to be out of shape and possibly not really GBs????--Given they could probably mop the floor with me hand to hand-that guy was vicious with that E-tool.

In fact, Spetsnatz is just a generic term that means "Special Purpose" and exactly that.
There's Army Spetsnatz (many different units, mostly infantry recon) and the GRU Spetsnatz (Strike Recon units), then there's Police Spetsnatz (also, many SWAT-like units of various size and importance), then there's FSB Spetsnatz (counter-terrorism units such as Alpha or Vympel) etc etc.

In fact, your "Spetsnatz" guy can be anybody ranging from local small-city OMON (SWAT) unit who is only slightly more proficient with guns and baton than your average village cop, to elite "Alpha" operator who get the world's best equipment and deals with terrorists to GRU Spetsnatz who is trained to infiltrate NATO countries and blow up C&C installations and tactical nuclear missile launchers.
