Hey all,

I just slapped a spikes tactical ar-15 in 22 caliber together. Ok i just fastened the two pins is all lol. Anyway, I need a scope and/or sights for this thing. it does not have the front sight tower, if that helps. I know NOTHING about scopes or sites. And this thing has none. This is my forst AR. I don't really want to spend more than $150. are there any reasonable options in this price range or less? maybe a red dot or something? what should i get?

i also wear glasses, if that makes any difference.

On a .22, it's really hard to beat a Nikon 4x32mm. 100 bucks at Wal Mart. In fact, dollar for dollar, IMHO you can't beat it.

Don't buy a Simmons .22 scope. I have one. Don't buy a BSA .22 scope. I had one.

Spend the hundred bucks on the Nikon -- now, or later.

If you want a red dot, the Ultradot is what a lot of bullseye match target shooters use on their pistols. They're not too expensive, but they're excellent and perfect for a .22 AR.

Have fun!

I have a .22 upper, but I have A2 sights on it. They're fun, too. But for the price of adding sights to your upper, you can get a scope. (That's one reason I didn't get a Spikes.)

You're probably not going to find something that's high quality for $150.

First, decide what kind of scope you want- magnified, or dot optic, and then you can narrow down your choices.

Even though your gun is just a .22, consider reading Zak's article on optics for a combat AR. There is a lot of good information there.

A Short Guide to Carbine Optics

If you're looking for just a basic, no-frills scope, look at some of the offerings from Weaver. They make some pretty good scopes in the $300 range.

Justin- Ever looked through the Nikon 4x32mm Rimfire scope?

Ordinarily, I'd really be wary of a scope under $200, but that one's an exception.

It's a tad heavy for something like a Marlin 60, but on a .22 AR it'd be fine.

...assuming that you want a standard magnifying riflescope, of course.

Great artical, thanks!

So are there any decent quality red dots, or aimpoint knockoffs?

I would like a type II

Im sure that nikon is a great scope, but i was hoping for something a bit more tacticool. this spikes has the colorfill, and just looks badass. just want to preserve that look (i may catch hell for this)

Just cant justify spending more than 200 for something like this right now ...

I was looking for something similar to this. This is also a spikes .22 AR

Admittedly I haven't, but Nikon generally makes quality stuff so I'll defer to you on that one.

BossHogg-

For red dot scopes you'll be looking at stuff from Aimpoint, Eotech, or Trijicon.

ArmedBear's suggestion of the Ultra Dot is a good one. They aren't tacticool, but they are very good scopes and reasonably priced. Having shot a few of the Ultradot scopes, I can tell you that they have a very clear dot. More so than on the Aimpoints, which in my experience tend to bloom or look a little bit smeary.
