I read in the paper about this knife show in Grapevine this weekend.
Has anyone been to this show before? What was it like?
The website, www.spiritofsteel.com makes it look like it is for serious collectors and custom knife makers. I'm neither. I just like shiny metal things. :)
Is it for blade aficionados only, or can we mere mortals attend also?

Is this the kind of show where they sell knives in ALL price ranges, or is this the kind of show where custom makers and collectors meet to show off their babies?

I love knives. I've had on in my pocket since I was six. I got to sharpen it when I was 14. Now my nephew is 14 and it is time to pass it on. No offense, but if it is the equivalent of a star trek convention, then we'll be bored as hell. I just don't want to waste our time.

I sure hope its for everyone. I'm gettin' giddy thinkin' 'bout all them knives.

If you can make it you should do everything in your power to go. A buddy of mine is driving all the way from E. TN to attend and if it wasn't my wife's birthday I'd be going with him. It will be an eye popping eye opener for you, I promise.:D

Bring as much cash money as you possibly can. You'll find knives from production to full collector's custom pieces. In between that range you'll find plenty of custom knives from great makers that you've never heard of at prices ranging from $150 to $300 that you'll have trouble resisting. Try to get there early and try to stay the whole show. On the first and last day, makers that have not sold much will be in a negotiating mood.;)

Well, I went to the show, and HSO was right. It was an eye opener to me. I saw my first $1200 folding knife and a $695 butterfly knife. Every table had something I wanted.

Alas, I had limited funds, so I only bought a Byrd Cara Cara. It is an awesome knife for the price, $20. The Spyderco salesman was nice and allowed my nephew and me to play with all his toys.

Thank you, HSO, for convincing me to go.

Now I'm envious!;)

I did have fun at Bowie's hammer-in though and learned a new finishing technique that should turn 4 hours worth of effort into 30 minutes thanks to Fuad's genius.:D
